Elf-shots are small flint arrowheads used by pixies as a weapon. Usually these shots induced no physical wounds, but would induce paralysis.

Occasionally flint arrowheads can be found, which with our current knowledge, we recognise as having been made by pre-historic peoples. However, until relatively recent times the origins of these artifacts were unknown, and it was believed that they were created by the pixies.

In olden times, any unaccountable deaths of humans and animals were attributed to being elf-shot, in fact the word Stroke, in the sense of paralytic seizure, is still in use today, its origin being Elf-stroke.
