My Details

Thanks for showing your interest. Here are some brief descriptions about people and places who have made my life the way it is.

I grew up in the Baranagar area in North Calcutta , which has a rich historical background.

Also spelled as 'Barahanagar',this is situated just east of the Hooghly River, part of the Calcutta urban agglomeration. Originally a Portuguese settlement, it became the seat of a Dutch trading station and an important river anchorage for Dutch shipping; those who are interested in the Colonial history can visit the 'Dutch Kuthi' near Kuthi Ghat area. In 1795 it was ceded to the British. With a Population of 224,821 (1991), Baranagar is a major industrial center, with manufactures in agricultural and industrial machinery, chemicals, castor oil, and matches; there are numerous jute and cotton-processing industries.

Indian Statistical Institute (established in 1931, by Prof Prasanta Chandra Mahalonobis) and the Indian Institute of Psychometry are located in Baranagar.

The famous Dakshineshwar Kali Temple built by Rani Rashmani and associated with the sacred memories of Sri Ramkrishna Paramhansadev is another landmark here. With the beautiful lightings, this temple looks really charming during the dark hours: see it from the Bally Bridge.
Nearby is the Vivekananda Setu or the Bally Bridge which connects Dakhineshwar and Bally. It is a rail and road bridge and an important connector to the National Highways NH-6 (to Mumbai) and NH-2 (to Delhi).

Baranagar Math where Swami Vivekananda and the other disciples of Sri Ramkrishna started their journey that culminated in Belur Math, and Udyan Baati where Sri Ramkrishna became the 'Kalpataru' are also in Baranagar.

I had my schooling till +2 in Baranagar Narendra Nath Vidyamandir . It was established in 1955 in the memory of the Bengali Entrepreneur Captain Narendra Nath Dutta who founded the pharmaceutical company called "Bengal Immunities". It is situated on Kashi Nath Dutta Road, midway between Sinthi More and Baranagar Bajar, in northern part of the city of Calcutta.

The establishment has got three buildings and a huge play-ground. The school provides education from 0-level to +2 under WB Board of Secondary Education and WB Council for Higher Secondary Education. It offers both Science and Commerce stream in the +2 years.
