Wilmer was the son of James Sylvester & Effie Pearl (Martin) Spade and grandson of Charles Henry & Mahalah Frances (Cavender) Spade. He had four brothers, all deceased: Alvin Clair, Guy Oscar, Ray Sylvester and Maxwell Martin, and one sister. Wilmer served our country in the United States Army. In his father's obituary of July 23, 1945, Pfc. Wilmer Spade was said to be then serving somewhere in the Pacific.
