Gibbs served our country in the United States Army and gave his life for our country when he was killed in action (K.I.A.) in WWII on Anzio Beachhead, Italy.

Gibbs was drafted into the military service, leaving Cherry Run, West Virginia for the U. S. Army on May 12, 1943. He was killed in action May 12, 1944 at Anzio Beachhead in Italy. Gibbs was buried with full military honors at Antietam National Cemetery.
