~ Rest of the Gang ~
Doug Scott
In the summer of my eighth grade year our family moved to Julesburg from Western Nebraska and we stayed until after my Junior year. We then moved to Southwest Missouri near Springfield to a town called Willard - where I graduated in 1960.
I then attended Southwest Missouri State University while continuing to run the family farm. In 1963 we sold the farm and I found a job with Royal Typewriter company in Springfield and worked there four years.

In 1965 I married Frankie Wilmesherr, who was a classmate at Willard High School. She is now Office Manager at SO MO Grill Supply in Springfield and helps me run our farming operation.

In 1967 I went to work for the Springfield News and Leaders as a pressman for nineteen years. In 1986 I felt I was an “old copy” after working nights for all those years so I decided to hang it up.

While working at the newspaper Frankie and I also had a farming operation. Somewhere in there we forgot to have kids but we sure enjoy our nieces and nephews.

In the fall of 1986 Frankie found a real full-time job for me - when we got into the Percheron Draft Horse Business. We started with one horse and gradually increased to showing a six-horse hitch in five states. Seven years ago Pennington Seed Company from Madison, Georgia, became a sponsor of our hitch.
Pennington Seed is the largest fescue seed buyer in the nation. They sell all type of seeds, bird, feed, nursery products and farm supplies. They are one of Wal-Mart’s largest suppliers; so if you see the Pennington label be sure and pick it up~ Besides showing for Pennington we make several shows, parades and appearances with the horses.
One highlight with the horses was at the World Percheron Congress (which is held in the United States once in every ten years).

I showed by cart horse to the honor of “World Champion Mens Cart Horse”. We have always enjoyed having friends and relatives help us show the horses.

At the present time I have a cow-calf operation, do some grain farming and drive a school bus for the Ash Grove Schools and take care of the Percherons.

We would be happy to have you visit us anytime.
