Rhea is chosen to go the Amazon Forest to search for a possible cure for cancer. Rhea is a biologist for Providian Pharmaceuticals and her assistant Ashley accompanies her as they explore the flora and fauna there. Within a few moments after they arrived Rhea sees an exceptionally gorgeous, dark-skinned man who is taller than all of the local natives of the Huitoto village. Rhea is fascinated by this six-foot-five native, and she learns to her dismay that she and Ashley are the only ones that see him. Rhea wants to discover more about this delicious man and she seeks her answers from Juanita, a Huitoto native. Juanita explains that only women see him and that he is the Guardian of the Stairway to Heaven. Both Rhea and Ashley have seen him, which means that he wants one of them.
Rhea’s nights are full of dreams of the Guardian as he comes to her and touches her. He says he is there to give her what she needs, taking her essence, leaving her buzzing in confusion. One night as their passion springs forth, she calls him Valos, and that is the name he takes. How can Rhea forge a lasting relationship with the mysterious Guardian? Will she ever return home?
Stairway To Heaven by Shannon Leigh is an intriguing tale about a native legend from the Amazon Forest. The Guardian comes to those who need something he can give. Rhea is a very well-developed character who I felt like I could reach out and touch. The Guardian is likeable, but somewhat illusive. When Rhea and the Guardian come together, they create a scorching passion that singed my eyebrows. Stairway To Heaven is a delightful story and I look forward to more unique tales from Ms. Leigh.
