History
At the close of the 19th Century, growing numbers of Scandinavians were drawn
to the Berlin area by work opportunities on
the Grand Trunk Railroad and in the timber industries along the Androscoggin River. Parented by First
Lutheran Church
in Portland, Maine,
St. Paul was
officially organized in 1887. Since the middle of this century, St. Paul has served a community of many backgrounds and
has been instrumental in satellite ministries in Lancaster and Conway, NH.
The congregation is now challenged by new ministries as the paper industry
declines and a state prison opens in the year 2000.
