| Adelaide Yates was normally known as Ann. To me she was "Granma Starling". Adelaide was born at 1 Ward Street, Birmingham on 22nd September 1915. In 1937 at Birmingham Registry Office she married James Starling. At the time of her marriage Adelaide was living at 9 Bently Grove, Weoley Castle, Birmingham. James and Adelaide had three children of which the eldest was my father Anthony. In the early 1970s the family had moved to Worthing, Sussex. I can clearly remember visiting in the holidays and playing on the shingle beach. Eventually James and Adelaide moved closer to us in Cambridgeshire and James died in about 1983. Adelaide married for a second time to Tom Abbott. They lived in Cambridge before Adelaide died in about 1994. |
