Charles Starling was born in Garrison Street, Saltley, Aston on 20th January 1875. He was the third child of Charles J. Starling and Sarah (nee Fitzpatrick). By the time Charles was aged 6 the 1881 shows the family as living at 4 House, 2 Court, Saltley Street. It is fair to assume from the address that these were probably the infamous 'back-to-back' houses.

Charles' siblings were:

  • Emma (b. 1872)
  • John (b. 1873)
  • Sarah (b. 1878)
  • Robert (b. 1880)

Signatures from marriage certificateCharles married Harriet Smith at St.Vincent's Roman Catholic Church in Aston on 18th November 1893. By this time Charles was living in Green Street.

Charles' occupation seems to have centered around the brickmaking trade and in 1901 he seems to have changed from making the bricks to a bricklayers labourer and was living in Lincoln Place, Birmingham.

It is not know at present when Charles died but he is shown as deceased on his son James' marriage certificate of 1937.
