You have probably heard accounts and seen pictures of cloud formations that resemble the face of Jesus. I wished I'd had a camera with me earlier this evening.
It was around 8.30 pm. Walking with my son, Scott, we stopped at a favourite spot near our home which provides extensive views from the Lincoln edge. You can see for miles from this spot, as far as the River Trent and neighbouring Nottinghamshire.
The sunset was rather spectacular. The great blood-red orb was sinking slowly over the horizon as we stood on the hillside. Something made me look up into the sky right above my head. White, fluffy cumulus cloud flecked the darkening sky. I stared at the largest cloud. It was unmistakable. I didn't want to influence my son, so I just asked; "Scott - what does that cloud up there look like?"
Scott looked up. "The Cross" he replied instantly. It was an incredible sight. The cloud formed the figure of the crucified Christ, arms stretched out, with a separate circular formation, floating just above the "head". I pointed it out to Scott and said that it might be either the crown of thorns or a halo. The wavy formation down the left-hand side of the cloud appeared very much like ribs. As we continued to look, a definite face pattern began to emerge. Scott said he couldn't quite make out a face, but I saw eyes, nose and mouth.
I have seen what looked like faces in cloud formations before, but I never saw anything like this. I stood transfixed until the formation dissipated and the sun sank from view. Was it a vision or just a natural formation of water vapour? Logic suggests the latter, but just being there enjoying a beautiful sunset refreshed my faith in my Saviour.
