Anna's Story Continued (picture ©2003 by Sharleen Wurm)

Ludwig (Lewis) and Rosa Pavlicek were married in 1905. Lewis had built a frame house on the homestead for their home. They had nine children, Anna, Mabel (1908), Frederick Ludwig (1911), Bertha (1912), Grace (1914), Gustave (1917), Emma (1919), Walter (1921), and Carl (1922). Walter died in infancy. Gustave died in 1927. Dad and Mother were farmers, raising grain and some livestock. Father was a member of the Big Timber band in early years of our lives. We went to school at Pleasant View District 67. Mabel Holben was our first teacher. School and neighborhood events were most of our recreation. Two Indian youths came through our yard one afternoon, caused no trouble. Probable age early teens. Our mother, Rosa, was born in Chicago in 1885, came to Decatur County with her parents Josef and Emma (Mueller) Pavlicek in 1886. Josef was born in Bohemia 1839, came to America in 1877, died in 1911. Emma was born in Austria 1847, came to America in 1882, died in 1922. They were married in 1882. Father's sisters, Ledah died in 1946, Phillipina died in 1959. Mother died in 1936, Father died in 1941. Fred, Mabel and I live in Decatur County. Mabel married Woodrow Brown in 1936, no children. He died in 1977. Bertha married Marvin Hood in 1936, three children, he died in 1980. She lives in Nebraska. Grace married Floyd Dolan in 1937, eight children. They live in Colorado. Emma married Jack Zepeda in 1953, two children, they live in Texas. Carl married Elaine Eichner in 1947, one child, they settled in Washington State after his discharge from Armed Services. Fred married Violet Backus in 1940, ten children. I am oldest of our family, born October 6, 1906, married Ira Tritt in 1947, no children. Ira died in 1959. He worked on Rock Island Railroad 37 years. My hobbies were sewing, quilting and crocheting. There has been a Wentz family living on the homestead for 84 years. Fred is third generation presently living there, his son Dwight, fourth generation farms the land. I think back to the dust bowl days, yet feel fortunate we live in such a wonderful country.
