Chapter 11
The pretty countryside
rolled by his window, but all Spike could see was Buffy’s face. The time away
from her had given room for doubts to grow. He hated the fact, but he thought
Drusilla had loved him and yet she had lied so easily to him.
There was no way he was
going to question Buffy about her virginity again. She had already told him
that he was her first, but never having been with one before, he wasn’t sure
what it was supposed to feel like. The only thing he had to go on was talk overheard
from other guys.
“You seem pretty intense
over there,” Lindsey said, turning into the parking lot of the Bronze. “And
you’ve been as broody as Angel all day, so you wanna tell me about it?”
“It’s Buffy,” Spike
responded with a soulful sigh. “I’m so confused.”
“You two did it, didn’t
you?” Lindsey sighed. He pulled into a parking space, turning the truck off
before he turned to look at Spike. “Just couldn’t hold off, could you?”
Guilt flooded Spike. How
could he ask his friend now? He had slept with the girl that Lindsey looked on
as a little sister. If they weren’t such good friends, Spike had a feeling he
would be on the receiving end of a beating about now. One that was probably
well deserved considering what he had done.
“I really care about her,”
Spike said, trying not only to convince his friend but himself as well. “She’s
really special, but…”
“But what, Spike?” Lindsey
growled warningly. “You’re going to go and break her heart aren’t you?”
It was too much. He probably
would. None of this was supposed to happen and being with Buffy had been like
being on a runaway train. From the first kiss he wanted her and she hadn’t been
pushing him away. In fact it was the exact opposite. She had been running
toward him as fast as he was running toward her. Spike knew he should have been
thinking with his head instead of his dick. No, he hadn’t been thinking with
his dick, it had been his heart. She was in every thought that he had all day
long.
“Not if I can help it,”
Spike promised. “I just don’t know what’s going to happen. How we’ll be able to
work this out, but I want to try.”
“Okay, no breaking her
heart, then what was the but for?”
Spike cleared his throat and
turned to stare at the front door of the club. “Can a girl be a virgin and
not…well, bleed or hurt?”
Lindsey laughed. He didn’t
stop until he could hardly breathe. He choked then started coughing. Spike was
glad it was dark because he could feel himself flush with embarrassment.
“Oh, man,” Lindsey chortled.
“You really are an innocent yourself, aren’t you?”
“Bloody hell,” Spike swore.
“I’ve never been with a virgin before and it’s not like I had a Da to talk with
about it. My mother would have died before she’d mention sex to me.”
“Sorry,” Lindsey said,
throwing his hands up in surrender, but he was still smiling. “Don’t get
pissed. I thought they covered this in health class.”
“Must have been absent that
day,” Spike snapped, reaching for the door handle. “Just forget it. Have a
laugh. Tell everybody how ignorant I am.”
“Wait,” Lindsey grabbed Spike’s
arm to keep him from getting out of the truck. “Come on. I’m really sorry.”
Spike stopped but refused to
look at his friend.
“To answer your question,”
Lindsey said. “Yes, a girl can be a virgin and not have a lot of pain or bleed.
The hymen can be broken by horseback riding or strenuous physical activities or
even wearing a tampon. And while I don’t know about the last, Buffy is
definitely into the first two.”
All Spike could feel was
relief. Buffy hadn’t lied to him after all. He felt bad for mistrusting her but
yet, he hadn’t known her that long either.
“Thanks,” Spike said. “I…”
He didn’t know how to explain his suspicions regarding Buffy, especially to one
of her friends.
“Don’t worry about it,”
Lindsey said, slapping his shoulder. “After Drusilla I’m surprised that you’re
even willing to take a chance on someone else.”
“What can I say?” Spike said
with a smile. “Buffy is special.”
They both climbed out of the
truck and headed for the club. The country music was pouring out of the front
door making Spike cringe. It was his least favorite music and was only another
difference between him and Buffy. But he decided to be positive about them
working things out. At the end of the week before he left they could decide
what to do then about continuing their relationship. That is if she even wanted
to.
After paying their cover
charges, they slipped into the crowd that filled the smoky club. They looked
toward the table area for the girls but didn’t see them. Spike let his gaze
slowly scan the crowd looking for Buffy and her friends. The stomping on the
dance floor made him turn in that direction and that was when he spotted her.
It was like the first night
that he’d seen her. His feet wouldn’t move, his heart rate accelerated, his
mouth opened and closed like a fish, and his cock stirred. She was beautifully
dressed in a baby blue dress with a full skirt that fell to mid-thigh. There
were cowboy boots on her feet and a cowboy hat perched on her head. She was
moving like lightening to the fast beat of a country song. A couple of stomps a
twirl, then she swooped down to her knees then back up. Buffy was hypnotizing
him with her dancing.
Suddenly she spotted him,
and smiled shyly before looking away. Spike moved to the edge of the dance floor,
watching and waiting, until she looked his way again. At present her backside
was to him, swishing and swaying, then there was another turn before she was
facing him again. He held his arms out to her. She didn’t hesitate. She ran to
him, jumping up, wrapping her arms and legs tightly around him. Her lips
pressed to his and he kissed her with all the emotions built up from being
without her all day.
“Hello, pet,” Spike
whispered, when they broke apart. Her face was flushed as she hopped back down
to her feet.
“Hi,” Buffy smiled up at
him. Her hands were still on his waist as she leaned against him. He wrapped
his arms around, keeping her close to him. “So, what do you think?”
“Of?’ Spike asked, looking
around. Not sure of what he was supposed to be approving.
“My hair,” Buffy
exasperatedly said, taking off her hat and shaking her mane of blonde tresses.
“I had it highlighted today.”
The look on her face let him
know that he should have noticed and commented without being prompted. Giving a
seductive smile, he dipped her so that one of the spotlights above the dance
floor cast its glow on her hair. He ran the fingers of his free hand through
the golden strands now accented with silver. It was soft as spun silk sliding
across his flesh. He growled and brought her back up so they were face to face.
“Mine,” he whispered before
kissing her. His fingers tangled in her hair, pulling her head back, to give
him more access to the heated recesses of her mouth. She made a sound deep in
her throat as she let her tongue meet his. This girl was moving him in ways
that he didn’t think he could. He could echo her words of the night before. He
was falling in love.
Someone bumped against them,
breaking them apart. Both were panting as they stared at one another for a
moment.
“Hey, you two,” Lindsey
said, handing Spike a beer. “Get a room. Everyone is staring.”
“Let them,” Spike answered,
but he stepped back. He didn’t want Buffy to be embarrassed by his actions. He
tugged on her hand. “Come on, let’s go get a table.”
When he turned he found
himself facing Angel, Cordelia and Harmony. They were all wearing grins. Didn’t
anyone in this town believe in privacy? It didn’t appear that way. Shaking his
head, he stepped around them and headed for the back of the club. A nice
secluded area for two, but he should have known better. The rest of the gang
was following them. No place to be alone so he gave up flopping down on a
couch. Buffy cuddled into his side next to him. Angel and Cordelia took the
love seat across from them and Harmony sat next to Buffy.
“I’m going to go and order
some food,” Lindsey said. “The usual?”
“Uh, what’s that mate?”
Spike asked, wondering if he was going to end up eating pig’s feet or something
else that wasn’t in his normal diet.
“Don’t worry,” Buffy said,
patting his leg. “We usually get one of those onion things, some wings and
pizza.”
“Now, that’s food,” Spike
said with a grin. “Hurry up, I’m feeling rather peckish.”
“Bossy,” Lindsey said,
throwing his hands up. “You want to come with, Harmony?”
“Sure,” the petite blonde
smiled as she jumped up to take Lindsey’s hand.
The two walked off together.
Spike watched them for a moment, wondering what his friend was getting into.
Lindsey was the stud of UCLA and although he had never interfered in his
friend’s love life before, this time he was tempted. Apparently the short talk
last night hadn’t penetrated Lindsey’s brain.
“Excuse me,” Buffy said,
cupping his cheek to turn his face toward her. Her tone was teasing but he
could the jealousy in her eyes. “I
really hope you’re not watching Harmony.”
His brow arched up as he
looked down into the jealous eyes of Buffy. He decided to kid her a little.
“Well, she was part of what I was looking at.”
Buffy’s arms crossed over
her middle and both of her eyebrows came up. “And so I take it that you wouldn’t
mind if I stare at Lindsey’s ass?”
“Uh-oh,” Cordelia warned. “I
think they’re going to blow.”
“I think you’re right,”
Angel agreed. “Let’s dance.”
The couple hurried off
toward the dance floor as Buffy and Spike stared at each other. Spike decided
he wasn’t giving in. Although they’d been almost inseparable, they weren’t
under any exclusive arrangement. How could she be truly angry with him?
“You didn’t answer my
question,” Buffy stated. “Answer it honestly. Do you mind if I stare at
Lindsey’s ass?”
Okay, she had him there.
“Yes, I mind,” Spike said, being
truthful. The thought of Buffy being interested in someone else was stirring
his anger. “Sorry, I wasn’t staring at
Harmony like that. I’m just worried that Linds is going to hurt her.”
“You’re so sweet,” Buffy
whispered, cupping the back of his neck. “It’s one of the things I like so much
about you.”
“Not sweet, lamb,” Spike
protested. He gave up though when she pulled him down for a kiss. It was all he
needed to lose all reason. Her tongue teasing his, her fingers playing with the
curls on the nape of his neck, and her leg draped over his lap. He turned her a
little so that it was more comfortable for both of them.
His hand drifted along her
rib cage beside her breast. There wasn’t anything he wanted more than to cup
it, mold it in his hand, and tease those hardened peaks poking through their
clothes to taunt him. He couldn’t…wouldn’t do that to her, not here in full
view of people that she knew. People that she would have to continue to deal
with after he returned to LA.
“Well, lookey here, it’s
Miss Buffy showing everyone what she’s learned,” a male voice announced making
them break apart.
It was Riley with the
friends he had been with the other night plus a few girls that were hanging on
their arms. His friends laughed while the girls tittered as they stared at
Buffy and Spike on the couch. Spike went to stand but Buffy’s hand was on his
stomach trying to hold him there.
“They’re not worth it,”
Buffy said, with a sniff. “Besides Riley is showing how much of an ass he truly
is.”
“I’ll second that,” Lindsey
said, coming up behind them. He put the food on the small table and plopped
down next to Buffy. Harmony sat beside him. “Go on, shoo, Riley, we men want to
spend some time with our women.”
An angry look crossed
Riley’s face but with his friends tagging along, he moved on. Spike knew that
before the week was over there was going to be another confrontation. Riley’s
manhood was at stake and he wouldn’t just let it go. If he did then his
reputation as the big man on campus would be shot. If the situation was
reversed, Spike wouldn’t let it go either. He sighed as he hoped that it would
at least be a fair fight.
“What a jerk,” Buffy said,
watching him. “I really wonder what the hell I ever saw in him.”
“Big, good-looking, football
player,” Harmony contributed, counting off on her fingers. “You’re a
cheerleader…”
“Okay, okay, Harmony,” Buffy
said, laughing. “Show how absolutely shallow I am about the guys I date.”
“And why did you pick me?”
Spike asked, running his fingers along her inner thigh, dipping just below the
hem of her dress. “My tough guy exterior? The bleached hair? My sexy swagger?
My accent?”
“Nope, not any of those,” Buffy
replied, shaking her head. She grabbed his questing hand before he could dive
too far under her skirt. “It’s the way you kiss. It makes me all melty.”
“Yeah?”
“Oh, yeah?”
Spike asked, chuckling as he
bent to kiss her again. His tongue darted in for just a taste before he asked
against her mouth. “Are you melting now?”
“Uh-huh,” Buffy agreed, her
hand wrapping in his shirt. Her eyes stared adoringly up at him. “Into a big
pile of…”
“Cow manure,” Lindsey
teased. He leaned against Buffy. “You two are sickening. You do know that don’t
you?”
“Go away,” Buffy demanded,
pushing her friend. “You’re ruining the mood.”
“Oh, hey, the spicy wings
and the onion thingy are here,” Spike declared, seeing the food for the first
time. He reached for a plate to fill
with the appetizers. “My favorites.”
“Great,” Buffy muttered.
“I’ve lost him to my rival again.” She untangled herself from him as he bit
into a wing. “Harmony, I’m going to the restroom. Would you like to go with
me?”
“Sure,” Harmony said, with a
smile and a shrug. She kissed Lindsey on the cheek. “I’ll be back.”
The guys watched the almost
mirror image girls walk away. “Now, that would be a fantasy, wouldn’t it?”
Lindsey said.
Spike cast him a dirty look.
“Thought she was your sister?”
“You my friend have opened
my eyes to the lover she could be,” Lindsey retorted with a big grin.
“Watch it, mate,” Spike
growled. “That’s my Buffy you’re talking about.”
“Your Buffy,” Lindsey said,
throwing his arms along the back of the couch. “I like the sound of that.”
”What about you and Harmony?” Spike asked, dipping some onion pieces in their
sauce. “You two working things out?”
“Don’t start,” Lindsey
shrugged. “I know, I know…I’ll talk to her tonight. Will that make you feel
better?”
“Sorry,” Spike said, putting
his plate down and resting his forearms on his thighs. “I just know what she’s
going through, that’s all.”
“Well, it’s behind you now,”
Lindsey said, patting him on the back. “You’ve got your Buffy.”
It was true. Spike smiled as
the memory of the night before as they made love, Buffy holding him, her hands
and mouth caressing his body while he thrust deep into her body. He looked up
to see her walking toward him. She was laughing and tossing her hair back over
her shoulders. And his only need at the moment was to hold her.
“I’ll be back,” Spike
absently told Lindsey as he stood to meet Buffy. If his friend said something
then Spike missed it. The only thing that reached his senses was the girl that
was only a touch away from him. She stopped, smiling up at him, as he reached
for her. “Let’s dance.”
“Yeah,” Buffy agreed, taking
his hand.
He led her deep into the
crowd of couples dancing to a soft, romantic ballad. She came to him willingly,
molding her body to his, as his arms wrapped around her. Their bodies started
to sway as he buried his face in her neck. Her fingers stroked his lower back,
sending chills along his spine. It was like coming home every time he held her.
Nothing and no one had ever made him feel this good before. Her hair tickled
his cheek, and her breath whispered across his neck.
And he wondered how long it
would be before he could get her alone.
