MEET MY NEW CHILDREN

Hi, come on in and meet my new adopted child. His name is Angels Dakota Warrior and I have only had him afew days now. He is really friendly as he gets to know you. Maybe alittle while later I will teach him to shake your paw.

If all the beasts were gone, men would die from great loneliness of spirit, since whatever happens to the beasts also happens to man. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth.

JOSHUA

'Lone wolves' seem to prefer to remain alone, and though the reasons for this behavior is not fully known, there are some ideas. Often the animal is an old male or female that has lost its mate. Such animals often choose to remain alone and to hunt singly. Occasionally an omega, or low ranking wolf, will follow so far behind the pack that it can be considered a lone wolf, and would have to survive on already well-chewed bones and hides.

There is one wolf at Wolf Haven who seems to prefer having an enclosure all to himself. Joshua was born in 1984, at the Bramble Zoo in South Dakota. He arrived at Wolf Haven in 1992 with his brother, Abraham. Originally, we hoped that Joshua would become the companion of Cris, a wolf that had been alone for some time and badly needed a companion. However, Josh had a mind of his own, and made it perfectly clear that he found that idea unacceptable. A new companion was found for Cris, while Joshua lives alone.

Joshua is a large wolf with a buff-colored coat and soft brown eyes. He has one of the most gentle dispositions of all the wolves at Wolf Haven. Though Josh does not require a wolf companion, he seems to need the attention of human beings, and our Animal Care staff are always more than happy to oblige.

Once wolves are in a captive situation and socialized to human beings, they can never be released into the wild. So it is with Joshua and so many other wolves at Wolf Haven. Perhaps because of their presence here, people will come to learn the important role wolves play in a thriving ecosystem. Perhaps, one day, there will be no more wolves in captivity. Because of your valuable contribution to Joshua, and all the wolves at Wolf Haven, you are helping to make that dream a reality.

I would like to extend a very special Thank You to Wolf Haven and Julie Palmquist for allowing me to adopt Joshua and to link back to their site. Please visit Wolf Haven........it is a must see site.
