Don't be fooled by her small stature--Krystal really is a "Supergilr"!

This incredible new artist is the first to be signed to the Backstreet Boys' new record label and is currently opening for them on their sold out Black and Blue tour. I had a chance to catch up with the woman of steel backstage in Detroit to find out her true identity.

Popstar!: It's so nice to see another strong female vocalist on the scene. You're an incredible talent!

Krystal: Well, thank you!

The music industry has really been dominated by female artists, more now than ever. How does it feel taking that step into the pool?

It's great! I always seize an opportunity to use the gift that I've been given to give back to the people. I've grown up in a musical family. My parents and I started travelling around and started singing together when I was about two years old and I've learned a lot from them.

Have you found people trying to compare you to any other female artists yet?

Yeah. I've had people compare me to Tori Amos and I love Tori Amos! I've also been compared to Pink, probably because of the short, punky hair type thing. I've been compared to Mariah Carey and even Bon Jovi because of the way I hold my mike stand.

You've said that you have many different musical influences, but who would you say has influenced you the most both musically and personally?

It would be my manager. He's my best friend. He showed me who I was musically. And of course my overall inspiration has always been Jesus Christ. Without Him I wouldn't even have this gift!

If we were to confiscate your CD collection right now, what would we find?

Ok, you'd find Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit, Michael Jackson--have all his CDs--Stevie Wonder of course, Stone Temple Pilots because Scott Weiland rules, D' Angelo and many other soul singers.

Do you remember the first moment when you really felt that spark of love for music?

You mean like when I was born? [Laughs] No, seriously, I think maybe I started feeling it when I was about seven years old when my mom started putting me into studio music where you're put on the spot and you just do what you gotta do. I've always loved every type of music. I loved singing in church. My grandmother used to take me to the hospital and play the piano and I would sing for the patients. I loved singing anywhere that could brighten up people's lives.

You plan an interesting variety of instruments. Which one besides the piano is your favorite?

Drums is my favorite! The drums rule and of course the piano--I can't discredit the piano, it's like my partner. The flute is also a really cool instrument and I just recently started to learn the guitar. I can't wait to learn more!

It's gotta be incredible being the first artist signed to the Backstreet Boys own record label. Do you fell major pressure because of that?

I think the pressure is probably there, but I don't necessarily take it on. The Boys really support me for who I am and I'm really able to be myself. That just alleviates the pressure. It's a blessing because most new artists aren't allowed that freedom. I definitely wanna make them proud!

The Black and Blue is such a huge tour to be a part of on your first time out on the road. How do you deal with any stress or anxiety that you're feeling?

I like to just come backstage and chill with the people who support me. I love to bring fans backstage and just chill with them. It really helps keep me real, knowing these people are the reason why I am doing this.

What one word would you want people to use to describe your style?

One word? Oh, my God! The first word I hope people will use is "WHOA!"

Your first single is titled "Supergierl," right?

"Supergirl" is basically about the same things as what Superman goes through. He's a regular dude with regular problems who can't seem to get a girlfriend, but on the other hand he's this superhero and doesn't realize he's changed his world and helped his world and saved them. That’s how I feel a lot of time--I know that there's a "Supergirl" inside of everybody and that you're able to change your world in spite of whatever you think might stand in your way.
