Venril Raid Strategy
Note:
This is from a message board post

There is only one strategy that I know to be successful.

To begin with send in teams of 2 with the 100% riposte discipline (53+monks, 54+rogues, 56+warriors) so they could riposte all of venril's melee and have them back off when the discipline wore off, at which a new team of 2 would run in discipline engaged. While wizards used lure series spells (only thing that would stick) and necros pumped all their mana into them. We had about 12 qualifying "tanks" 8-10 wizzies, 8-10 necros. Plus a few enchanters, shamans, and of course clerics =)

The rest of the classes help tremendously by holding off the other spawns and were a great final blow when Venril started to RUN.

It makes a very short fight, took less than 40 seconds to kill him

The wizards nuke in volleys timed together, apparently confusing him enough to not go after them

Rogues, monks should go in first to tank, than evade / FD after their discipline wears off, remember your only sending in 2 melee at a time, and the next 2 need to step up and be in place at the time the disciplines are wearing off (we had the leader running a timer and shouting specific orders of exactly who and when to jump in the fight

Rogues should move behind VS and only backstab/evade without getting agro after their discipline wears off, the last couple to tank were warriors and he should be already near dead and running by then, so it shouldn't matter if they kept agro or not.

Beware that when he gets under half life he seemed to stop proc'ing and run around a lot.

Using this tactic, the fight is so fast and VS is so confused, he should go down very easily.

The most important thing is the timing, and I don't think you can do him without someone experienced at leading and timing the disciplines.

Venril Sathir, Scalekeeper and other lifetap proccing mobs

For these mobs it is very important to keep aggro at one person the entire time. Get a small group of people who can do damage fast, a few lure capable wizards and a few rogues are always nice you need a high level (55+) warrior with good AC and fast proccing weapons to taunt. First off dont give anyone but the main tanks any HP buffs, certainly not the casters (because of low AC) this only makes VS tap more. If casters get aggroed there is no time to outtaunt anyways in the time it takes VS to kill them so its best they only get tapped once instead of twice or 3 times. Preferably everyone is runed with the same rune, though you might want to use rune 5 on all tanks pre fight and none on the casters and use rune 3 during the fight on the main tank.

Send your main tank in first, and let him taunt a bit... two enchanters (preferably of the same level) stagger casts of rune on him, a little more then 2 seconds apart (half the casting time). Rune 3 suffices, but if you are wealthy you could use rune 5 for a little extra safety net (you might use certain other enchanter spells as an extra safety net too).

Make sure the main tank is the closest player to Venril at all times, as aggro is partly proximity based, all others stand behind him and as far as possible while still able to hit him. Enchanters check continually with an /assist on Venril Sathir who is the current highest on the aggro list (which should be the MA). If someone else but the main tank is on the list... then shout this and rune as soon as you can, the main enchanters will switch to this target if needed and it is a warrior with defensive. If this is another like a wizard just let them die, or kill them quick if your on a PvP server - they did something wrong by overaggroing so dont let VS drain all their hitpoints too. Wizards will wait till VS is quite hurt until nuking (some say 70 health some say 50). Do not chain nuke in the beginning, wait at least a second or two before recasting, if you get aggroed you just undid all your damage. Hopefully it will be a quick fight, if it takes too long and he lifetaps a few times just port to DL and try again.
