Vendor Pharming

Vendor Pharming (Vehn * Dohr - Fahrm * ing) - The act of getting an item from a vendor by weeding out his crappy topsale items. Vendor Pharming or what I will refer to as Vp for the rest of the discussion is quite easy and can net you those pelts/chips/skins/*insert item here* that you have been trying to get. Don't believe me? I've walked away from ONE vendor with over 200 spider silks, 100 spiderling silks and a 100 or so non-ruined pelts. First things first, your item. What do you need? Bone chips? Your vendors are in FoB, EC, Rathe Mtns. I can't actually go through a comprehensive list as to what items to look for where, but so you get the general idea... Vp in a place with a lot of *insert random mob that drops what you need here* nearby. Now your vendors. First vendors you should try are the semi-out of the way vendors, because with some luck you won't even have to pharm them much. Then you hit the wholesalers for that area. These are the vendors you know a LOT of people go to.

The nitty-gritty of Vp. Start with a bank roll of 100pp or so. This is to keep yourself from accidently spending too much, and so you can buy some of the higher price items you might need to get rid of.

Also, make sure you have a lot of bag slots open. As many as possible, the more slots you have means the less trips you have to make between a Vp vendor and a selling vendor (more on this later).

Put all the items you do have on yourself in bag(s) located on the right hand column and farthest down (This leaves for easy access to what you DO want to sell to a selling vendor).

Now the fun begins. Search out the STACKABLE cheap items first (i.e. meats, scales, eggs, ruined pelts) and buy them all up until the slot is empty. Clear up as many spots as possible on the STACKABLE cheap items first. When done with this, click done and then open up the vendor window again.

Now search for the cheapest items that are not stackable (i.e. variations of rusty weapons, beetle eyes, etc.) Clear these spots out. While doing this you will more than likely fill up your inventory, no worries this just means you have to sell.

***Selling Vendors**** Choose a nearby vendor (as close as possible, you'll be pretty encumbered by a lot of rusty weapons, SoW and Str buffs help some here). This vendor is one that needs to not have a complete inventory, I only say this because you don't want this to be a vendor you have to pharm EVERYTHING you have already pharmed off another vendor off of. Sell all your slots that were designated slots for Vp.

Now back to the vendor at hand. This vendor has been cleared out on a lot of it's junk by now and you might have already struck payload.

GRATS! But, you might have not. Here is where it can get tricky. This vendor probably has some things you don't/can't buy off him/her (i.e. FS, and other expensive items). There will always be one item though, one item under 10pp but you have to know which to pick. You want to pick an item that is rare, and will probably not have another so you only have to buy the one. ONLY buy ONE item slot if it's starts getting to expensive. You might hit another item that fell into the categories we first described, or you might hit an item you want.

If not, rinse repeat. Eventually you will get down to no more items and then you are done Vp'ing this vendor.

Another thing to add as to save yourself trouble is this.

Let's say you really really want a HQ Cat Pelt and you have one already on you. To test to see if the vendor might have it is to clear one block in his inventory and sell your pelt. If the pelt does not go into that block, then you know your pelt and possibly a ton of other pelts are somewhere below.

There is a limit on how many total items it holds in the queue and busy merchants may go over that and new items may just be destroyed by the merchant.

When Luclin came out, I've gotten Akheva blood, Centi Longswords and Warspears, Singing Steel and Deepwater pieces, rare 55+ spells and other just SILLY goodies from dumpster diving in Shadowhaven and The Bazaar recently. Seems people are offloading everything to get a horsie. You may want to check the stable merchants on your respective servers for a nice suprise.

This is very useful in finding items for tailoring.
