Barret was tutored by an astronomer in the Cosmo Canyon where he learned about life and about the planet. Now the leader and founder of the Anti-Shinra group Avalanche, he tries to do whatever possible to keep Shinra from destroying the planet. He blames himself for the destruction of his village, when in fact it was caused by The Shinra reactor. In that same incident Barret lost his arm and replaced it with an artificial one, and he also lost his best friend Dyne. He is often angry, bitter, and seeks revenge on Shinra for the death of his wife. He now lives for his daughter Marlene.
