welcome to the fourth and final wtc rant...i hope...
ok, so everywhere you look there's tee shirts and flags and bumper stickers and pencils and pins and goddess only knows what all else for sale plastered with the american flag. these are not everyday sale items. trust me. i work in retail. wal-mart has gotten in countless american flag items including but not restricted to the things i listed above. the flags that we had in stock before september 11th went up in price anywhere from 25 to 50%.
you're wondering, you are so anti-american anyway, why do you care? i'll tell you why. it's just another example of corporate america sucking the light and life out of the world. people who may or may not have the money come in and buy 30 or 40 dollars in american flag shit. they feel like they have to buy something in order to be patriotic or a good american. this is all bullshit. i am not one to promote wanting to be either of those things, but damn, i mean, do you really think that patriotism lies in a $20 flag or a $15 shirt? i highly doubt it. it's like religion. wearing a pentacle or cross does not automatically make you a wiccan or xian. neither does flying a flag outside your home or on your car make you patriotic.
all of this wouldn't piss me off so much in regards to just wal-mart if it weren't for one tiny thing. all the stores are capitalizing on the fear and misplaced hope of the nation, right? so why pick on wally world? they issued a statement via video for the associates to watch that specifically stated that wal-mart will not be trying to capitalize or make money off the tragedy in any way. they even told the managers to print it out and post it on the bulletin board. if they were truly not trying to make money off of this, they would donate at least most of the proceeds from the sale of all this tacky american regalia to a charity, but no, the only charity they are involved in supporting with this are the holy greedy pockets they want to line. it's sad when that many people can die and all that these people can think of is how much money they are going to make off of it all. it makes you wonder if they have normal vision or if they only see dollar signs like keanu reeves only sees the binary code at the end of the matrix. i wouldn't be surprised at all.
