humanity in doses

ok...we all know what happened on september 11th...i won't go into deep detail about it. i will however rant and rave like a lunatic here.

"the death of one is a tragedy...the death of millions is just a statistic"-marilyn manson

alrighty...everyday, millions of innocent people suffer and die needlessly because of various reasons and the world and the american public do not bat an eye. let something like this happen, and they all turn into bleeding hearts willing to give all. now, don't misunderstand me. the attack hit me just as hard as anyone. i felt the pain that the families of the victims must be feeling. i felt the horror that there are people so hateful and insane in the world that would do such a thing. BUT i also feel that pain whenever i read that anyone has died of preventable and/or violent means. the rest of the world does not seem to. this incident does require a great deal of help and backing. but so do the people that die and suffer everyday.

why is it that the public, american or otherwise, love to rush to the aid of a "disaster" but run from individual horrors like they are the plague? there are people dropping like flies from aids and hundreds of other causes that require blood and other donations. you will never see such turnout of goodwill for that. it has no glory in it. there will be no camera crews there to film and laud their loving efforts. it will only be the gratitude of one or a few simple people that the nation and world have never heard of. how much is that worth to the people that make gods of money and power?

...thus spake the munkies and it was good...
