How To Master Turbo 21!

So, you want to learn how to score big at Turbo 21, huh? If so, then you have come to the right place. Let a master teach you the tricks of the trade. I will tell you how to get every single combination, to get to the very top of the board. Sit back tight, and enjoy the lesson.

Lesson # 1

First of all, if you have no idea how to, or where to play this game, then I suggest you check it out Pogo.com

Okay, you know the basics of Turbo 21, right? Good! Now that you know the basics, how about some tips and tricks of the trade!

When placing cards down in a column, it's best to place the low numbers (2-9) by themself. The reason for that is because there are four Aces out there somewhere. You can't score the highest, if you don't use your aces on a 10 (J,Q,K) Always place the low cards by themself. If you get 4 columns of low cards, and the fifth card is a low card as well, then try to match it up with another one that is identical. Only if the card is a 5, 6, 8, or a 9. I'll explain later why it is best to do it that way. The best way to place your cards, looks something like this:

Notice how the tens have no low cards on top of them? Let's just say that all of the tens had the low cards on them, and you weren't lucky enough to get another ten before you use your Ace. What would you be able to do in that case? You wouldn't be able to score very big, that's for sure. Here's another picture of how to place your cards:

This is a picture of what it looks like at the beginning of a hand. Do you notice how I didn't put the 5 on top of the 10? Most people would have in that instance. If you would have put that 5 on top of the 10, and the next 3 cards were all low cards (2-9), chances are, the ace would have come as the 4th card after those next low 3. I've seen it happen hundreds of times. It use to be one of my biggest flaws before I learned the tricks of the trade. So, remember:

1. Try to always place your low cards by themself (unless you've used all 4 aces already)
2. Learn how to count how many aces you have used so far.
3. If your 4 columns looks like this:

Place similar cards together. You can't do this too many times per game. I'll explain later why you can only do it about once per game. But, do it if you have to. 3+3 together makes 6.

Lesson 2

In this lesson, I will describe the importance of combining cards together.

The reason it is SO important to combine the cards, is because that is the ONLY way you can make 18 21's together. You can't simply place all numbers together, and get 18 21's. To make 18 21's, that is where some card combinations are required. Here is a sample of what card combining looks like:

Notice how the 2 is on top of the 8? That makes an extra 10. You have to almost ALWAYS make a card combination of two low cards together, to make a ten, to be able to get 18 21's. There is a few exceptions to that rule. That will be discussed in the next section.

Some general rules of the thumb are: Only combine two cards together to make a 10 if there isn't 3-4 10's on your 4 columns as it is. Try to only do it when you have room to breathe. Never, ever combine cards to make a 10 more than ONCE per hand. It is an almost necessary tool to get the 18 21's, but you can't do it more than once, or you won't get 18 21's.

It's very hard to get 18 21's. You have to have patience, and it will come to you. If you get frustrated, or have to bust a lane, then press new game. That's what I always do. Saves alot of hair pullings, and cursings in the long run.

Note, that you can NOT get 18 21's if you bust one single solitary time. You have to use all 4 aces on 4 tens, use card combinations, and count to 21 with the rest, as usual.

There ALWAYS HAS to be a 2 leftover, in order to achieve 18 21's. So, at the end of your game, in order to get 18 21's, there should be a single 2 leftover, or you won't get it.

Combinations

In this section, you will learn the real meat of attaining Turbo 21 stardom. This is where you will learn the ways to do almost every single combination to achieve 18 21's. Sit back, take notes, and relax. Here goes.

Combo # 1

Combo number one that I will explain how to achieve, is pictured above.

Of course, you start out with 52 cards. This is what you will need to do to achieve this combo.

7+3 makes a 10. That 10 can be used as any ordinary 10. Just like you'd use with a regular 10 to make a 21. The 9 + 8 will be used with a 4, to make a 21. When you make the combo yourself, it may look a bit different. For instance, your 3 might be on top of the 7, instead of the bottom. Same goes for 9 + 8 + 4. It might look something like this instead: 3 + 7 = 10 and 9 + 4 + 8 = 21.

No matter how you slice and dice it, you achieve the same effect. It looks a little different at first if you are used to doing it a certain pattern. You can't get used to just one certain pattern, or you'll surely not score as much. So, here's everything you will NEED to do, in order to make this combo work. Pay close attention, it can get a little confusing at times:

7 + 3, to make an extra 10.

9 + 8 + 4, to make an extra 21.

Use all 4 aces on 4 10's.

Add all other cards together like you normally would, to make 21's. (like 5 + 6 + 10 = 21)

Near towards the end, you have to make sure to NOT place one of the two's on top of a ten, or any other card. That will hamper your ability to get 18 21's. There MUST be a 2 leftover, in order to get 18 21's.

All aces must be used on 4 10's in order to achieve 18 21's.

You mustn't bust even one time, in order to achieve 18 21's.

You must make 21's with the rest of your cards in the normal fashion. For example, you can't use a 7 + 3 = 10, 9 + 8 + 4 = 21, and another variation combo like 6 + 6 + 5 + 5, to get 18 21's. It will NOT work that way. The most you will get doing it that way, is 17 21's.

All cards must fall in the right place, in order to achieve this combo. Try to make as many regular 21's as you can, before attempting to do the combo.

If you see 4 2's before you have done the combo, then it WILL not work. There will be a 2 left over, or you can't get 18 21's.

Still confused? It might be overwhelming at first, but study, take notes, and practice, and I promise you, you will become a Turbo 21 Master, in no time. :o)

Combo # 2

Here is where you will learn to do another 18 21's combination. Study close, take notes, sit back, and relax.

To achieve 18 21's doing this combo, glance at the picture above, to see how the cards look.

Notice how the 8 and the 2 are together? Kind of like from Combo # 1 earlier in this lesson, you use TWO cards, in order to make another 10.

8 + 2 = a standard 10. Which you would use just as you would any other 10.

9 + 3 = 12. You would put another 9 on top of that, to get another 21.

Here is a summary of what the combo would look like:

8 + 2 = 10, 9 + 3 + 9 = 21.

Think about it this way, see how you put an 8 and a 2 together? Usually, you would have put a 3 with that 8, and a 9 with that 2. Instead, you used them together to make a 10. Now look at the 9 + 3 + 9 combo part. The 3 that you WOULD have normally used on the 8 + 2 combo, is now in this NEW combo. The 3 that normally WOULD have used on the 8 + 2 combo, is now in the new combo. So, instead of 8 + 3 + 10 = 21, and 9 + 2 + 10 = 21, you now have taken the two numbers that make a 21 from the original two, and have combined them together, to form a new way of getting 21's. So, here is what you will need to do, to achieve this combo, and 18 21's:

8 + 2 = 10
9 + 3 + 9 = 21.
4 aces on 4 10's
complete the set of 21's as you normally would. (5+6 + 10 = 21, etc)
There MUST be a 2 left over, in order to achieve 18 21's.

You can use ONE ace on top of the either 8, or 2, and still achieve 18 21's. If you put an ace on top of an 8, that would turn it into a 9, then you would put a 2 on top of the new 9. It has the same effect as if you did 8 + 2 + ace. Only the ace comes BEFORE the 8 + 2. It gets confusing, but you'll get use to it.

DO NOT follow a simple pattern. Do them facing every which direction. Example: 2 + 8 = 10, 9 + 9 + 3 = 21, or 2 + ace + 8 = 21, 3 + 9 + 9 = 21. It looks much different when you are playing the game, so counting cards would help you some.

Now, onto the next combo.

Combo # 3

In this part 3 combo session, I will be more brief. You can use some of the tips from the two combos above, to get a general idea of what to do. Here is what you need to do, in order to achieve 18 21's, using THIS combo.

6 + 4 = an ordinary 10
5 + 7 = 12 put a 9 on that, to make a 21.
4 aces on 4 10's
Make 21's in the normal fashion.
There MUST be a 2 left over, in order to achieve 18 21's.

Ace + 6 = 7 + 4 = 21. Same effect as simply 6 + 4, or 4 + 6 = 10. Only the ace comes first. Learn how to use the ace in your advantage. You can ONLY use the ACE on the COMBO that makes a 10. The other 3 aces HAVE to be used on 3 tens as usual.

Combo # 4

Are you writing every bit of this down? You aren't? Shame on you! You won't be able to master this over night. I have been playing faithfully since it came out in November of 2000. Ask around in Playing in the Park, under the 20's room. Just ask who the best player of all time is. They'll tell you. *wink*

Combo number 4:

This is what you need to do, in order to achieve 18 21's from the combo above:

5 + 5 = 10
6 + 6 = 12 place a 9 on that, to = 21.
5 + 5 = 10, 6 + 6 + 9 = 21.

Use 4 aces on 4 10's.
Make the rest of your 21's as you normally would.

You can use the ace trick once again on your fives. So, an ace + 5 = 6. You would then use the other 5 on that, to make a 21. So, it would look like this in your entire combo:

Ace + 5 + 5 = 21 or 5 + Ace + 5 = 21 and 6 + 6 + 9 = 21. Or 9 + 6 + 6 =21. And even 6 + 9 + 6 = 21. Get used to the different ways of putting them together. Sounds simple looking at it from here, but once you learn a certain pattern like say: 6 + 6 + 9 = 21. Then you could EASILY forget about 9 + 6 + 6. Trust me, I always use to make that mistake. You'll get use to it. Practice makes perfect.

Summary:

5 + 5 = 10, 6 + 6 + 9 = 21.
4 aces on 4 10's
The rest of the 21's as usual. Example (5 + 6 + 10 = 11, 9 + 2 + 10 = 11, Ace + 10 = 21, etc)

There MUST BE a 2 left over at the end, or the combo and 18 21's will NOT work.

Combo # 5

This combo is a little harder to attain. For obvious reasons.

Here is what you need to do, in order to achieve 18 21's using the above combo:

4 + 4 + 4 + 9 = 21, 7 + 7 + 7 = 21.
4 aces on 4 10's
the rest of your 21's as usual.

The reason this one is more difficult, other than the obvious, is because of how many cards need to be in place, in order to attain it. It's VERY hard to do this combo, and I don't recommend it very much. I have only gotten it to work several times. Your cards will most likely not fall in good enough order to get 3 4's and 3 7's in a row. It is still fun to try.

As with ANY and ALL combos, a 2 MUST be left over in the end, in order to achieve 18 21's. DO NOT PLACE your 4TH 2 on top of a 10, or a low card. Put it to the side, all by itself.

Combo # 6

This combo is a fun one. It's pretty hard to do, and is a variation of the 8 + 2 = 10 and 9 + 3 + 9 =21 combo. Here is what you would do to get 18 21's using the above combo:

5 + 4 + 2 = 11 + 10 = 21, 7 + 8 + 6 = 21, and 9 + 3 + 9 = 21.

Just as with any combo, you use 4 aces on 4 10's.
And make the rest of your 21's as usual. It's really the same thing as 8 + 2 and 9 + 3 + 9 = 21. You'd have to know what I'm talking about, or study it closely, to know what I mean. Just a fun way of making it more challenging to get 18 21's is all. There are 5 basic combos to get 18 21's, and then there are variations of combos based off of those 5 regular combos.

If you think about it, 2 + 5 = 7, right? If you put the 8 on that 2, and then a 7, you'd have 17. Then you'd place a 4 to make a 21. Which would look like 8 + 2 = 10 then 7 + 4 to make your 21. All we are doing is chopping that in half, and making it look like this:

5 + 2 + 4 = 11 + 10 = 21, THEN 8 + 7 + 6 = 21. It's the exact SAME thing as using 8 + 2. Only chopped down into 2 different sections. Most of the 5 regular combos can be chopped down into smaller ones like this. It is EXTREMELY difficult to get use to what goes with what at first, but this way of making 18 21's is a GREAT tool, if you wish to become a true master at Turbo 21. So, it would look like this:

5 + 2 + 4 = 11 + 10 = 21
7 + 8 + 6 = 21
9 + 3 + 9 = 21

4 aces on 4 21's

the rest of 21's as you normally would make them.

As with ANY combo, you would have to HAVE a 2 at the end, in order to achieve 18 21's.

Confusing for awhile, rewarding in the long run.

Combo # 7

This combo takes a similar method as Combo # 6, from above. It extracts it from the combo: 5 + 5 = 10, and 6 + 6 + 9 = 21. Here is how this combo would look and work, in order to achieve 18 21's:

5 + 3 + 3 = 11 + 10 = 21.
8 + 8 + 5 = 21
6 + 6 + 9 = 21

See what I mean? 5 + 3 + 3, is the same as 5 + 5. Only now you have 5 + 3 + 3 = 11. And in the next column you'd use the OTHER 5 with 8 + 8 + 5 = 21.

4 aces on 4 10's as usual.
Make the rest of your 21's as you normally would.

As always, a 2 MUST be left over, in order to achieve 18 21's.

*WHEW* Getting tired, yet? It's okay, I'm done with the combo session for the day. I hope you've enjoyed the lessons in order to help you become a master, and a very skillful player. It makes the game a whole lot more fun, when you learn how to master these! I press the new game button until I can get 18 21's.

Final Tips and notes:

Remember to always leave a 2 at the end, or you can't make 18 21's.

Learn how to make the combinations using every which direction. Example: 8 + 2 = 10, 9 + 3 + 9 = 21. 2 + 8 = 10, 3 + 9 + 9. etc.. It sounds cheesey, but believe me, when you are ATTEMPTING to do any combo, you WILL get use to one pattern, and forget how to do it with the cards facing a different order. Be flexible, and take your time. Don't get too frustrated, because even I have a hard time getting 18 21's at times, and I HAVE mastered the craft.
