THE Hair Tutorial (this was made using PSP 7)

(These are the steps taken to make the hair)

Step 1): First you have to draw the outline of the hair. Using the paintbrush on the side tool menu (shown above) and the Tool Options menu (a pull down menu) set the size to 1 and draw the general outline of the hair. It DOES NOT have to be perfect.

Step 2): Next, highlight the area unside the outline using the magic wand (shown above). Then after highlighted use the lighter color that you want the general haircolor to be and use the Fill tool to fill it in.

Step 3): Leaving the hair highlighted, select the retouch tool (shown above). In the scroll down bar on the "Tool Options" menu, select "Dark RGB" (example also shown above). Darken the area of the hair where you want "seperate strands". The size of the darkened lines does not matter, but I suggest either 1 or 2 depending on the size of the doll.

Step 4): Now on the drop down bar on the "Tool Options" menu select "Lighten RGB". Then, on the same size as the "Darken RGB" had been set to, fill in the spaces between the darkened lines.

Step 5) (OPTIONAL): Now for the trickier part. On the same drop down bar on the menu, select "Smudge"...set it to about size 4 or higher I'd suggest. Smudge the lightened and darkened lines piece by piece...don't smudge them together, just soften the lines a bit. This is not mandatory, but I have found it makes the hair look more realistic.

Step 6): Finally select "Lighten RGB" again. Change the size to somewhere between 4-7, again, depending on the doll size. Then lighten the areas where the light might fall on and make the hair shine.

Aaaannd...add some jewelry, clothes, etc. etc. and you have a lurverly doll! Aaaw, you're an artist, give yourself a big pat on the back. XD
