Miscellaneous Thoughts (a.k.a. The Ranting Corner)

Random Thought
I was just reading in one of the local newspapers about the craptacular reality of property taxes. The complaint is that if you own a house but don?t have kids then you?re paying to educate someone else?s child. The problem with this complaint is the social responsibility we all have to educate the next crop of youngsters.

The arguments goes on and on but I think I have a suggestion. Property taxes should not be property taxes. The government taxes your property but the end result is pubic school education. The tax should be called Education Tax and everyone who has a vested interest in a community (i.e. homeowners) should pay x amount. If you have a child you should pay x + 1. If you have two children you should pay x + 2 and so on. This way, everyone is holding up their end of the social responsibility, but those who actually benefit from the system put more in that those who don?t. Problem solved.

And don't give me that schlock about how this makes it a penality to have kids. Having kids is not a right it's a privilege.

i agree...but what if you send your kids to private schools..you are still paying to educate someone else...while i spose it is your duty as a homeowner...one could argue that by paying ridiculaous amounts of money to send their kids to a better education should and would be exept from such a tax..and i would tend to agree with that.. ^_^

This doesn't work on a lot of different levels.
First, poor people choose to have children they can't afford as it is. What would the penlty be for them? Not to educate their children? Wouldn't that create an even bigger problem guaranteeing the cycle repeats with even more poor, uneducated people?
Also, how would you deal with senior citizens? They no longer have children, but they have reaped the benefits of free education for their kids, and now, when it is time for them to ante up, they get a free ride? That kind of sucks. My father paid for their kids, and now they don't pay for mine?
Because you are a responsible person, you assume most people are. If people were, would the welfare roles be loaded with families consisting of multiple kids with an equal, or nearly so, number of fathers?
Would men abandon a family, only to start another?
Would the term "Deadbeat Dads" exist?
We have many laws enacted yearly because people are not responsible.
