Miscellaneous Thoughts (a.k.a. The Ranting Corner)
Saturday, 18 December 2004
Gah!
Is anyone else going through withdrawal from the Hanukkah song? We?re almost at Christmas and not once have I heard Adam Sandler on the radio. A pox on all radio stations!

I learned something interesting today. The feast day of the Immaculate Conception was on December 8th. Which means that the Baby Jesus was conceived on the eighth and born on the twenty-fifth? Shouldn?t the feast of the Immaculate Conception be sometime in March? Did they just randomly pick a day? I feel so used.

Actually, the feast of the Immaculate Conception refers to the conception of Mary, Jesus' mother. According to the Catholic Church, Mary was the only human born without Original Sin on her soul (in other words, she was "immaculate") so that she could later become the mother of Christ. The thought that the feast day means Jesus is a common misperception.

The Immaculate Conception was Mary herself being concieved in the Holy Spirit. As in Mary's mom was blessed to have conceived a daughter who would become so important to the world.

Actually, the celebration of Christmas was moved to December to coincide with Festivus.

Ooops, I meant the winter solstice, so the pagans wouldn't get their holidays confused.
