Tri Color Diagonal

Tri Color Diagonal eyes are a really fun look, but tricky to get the hang of at first. If you want to see this makeup effect done very well and also happen to love musicals and transvestites a lot rent Hedwig And The Angry Inch and watch that. There is some very nice makeup in that movie.

Instructions:

First off pick the colors you want to use. You need a light color for the outertridiagonalsections.bmp (1197558 bytes) edge of the eyelid, a midtone for the center of the eyelid, and something a little darker and different for the inner edge of the eyelid. (you can also reverse this and have it go from dark on outside to light on inside if you like that better, experiment). There are some pictures of different color combos at the bottom of the page you can look at.

The tools you need are fairly simple. You need your eye shadow applicator. Your finger just is not going to work. I also reccomend getting an index card or something similar if you are a beginner to help with edges.

Start by taking the light color and spreading over outer edge of you eyelid. Use the index card to make a line from outer edge of eye to outer edge of eyebrow (see illustraition above to see what I am talking about).

Take the medium color and apply to the rest of the part of the eyelid that goes over the actual eyeball and up into a section of the lid that covers the brow bone.

Take the darkest color and fill in from inner corner of your eye all the way up to the inner corner of your eyebrow and back until it hits the stripe of medium color.

At this point your lines should all be fairly sharp because you used the index card to prevent smudging mistakes. You want to go back in and lightly blend all the colors together where they meet do you don't look like a coloring book or something out of The Yellow Submarine (a good cartoon, but not what we are going for here). It might take you a few tries to get the hang of this style but once you do it looks very nice and is quite exotic.

Once you have the shadow done you can apply liner and mascara if you want to or go without. I use both because it helps to define the eyes.
