RUBY in PARIS!

After landing at Gatwick Airport, Ruby hustled to Dover and boarded the
Eurostar Train to travel the Channel Tunnel (aka the “CHUNNEL”!) to France.
Apart from the MAP above, all pix on this page were taken by Ruby.

Ruby’s view of The Eiffel Tower from her Hotel Room.
Her primary reason for going to Paris was to visit the Eiffel Tower!

The Eiffel Tower
was inaugurated on 31 March 1889.

It was the keystone of the Universal Exposition
celebrating the hundredth anniversary of
the French Revolution.

The Eiffel Tower was built
by Gustave Eiffel in just 26 months.
It took 18,038 parts, 3,000 workshop drawings,
700 engineering plans and 2,500,000
rivets to raise this structure weighing 7,300 tons
and measuring 1,050 feet high.

I dunno what these Paris buildings are! LOL

The Obélisque de Luxor
in the
Place de la Concorde.

The Place de la Concorde is the
largest public square in Paris.
Situated along the Seine in the
8th arrondissement, it separates
the Tuileries Gardens from
the beginning of the
boulevard Champs-Elysées.

Maxim's is a restaurant in Paris, France, located on the rue Royale.
It is known for its art nouveau interior décor, and its incredible food.

Maxim's was founded during the Belle Epoque, on April 7, 1893.
Chefs who worked at Maxim's included a young Wolfgang Puck.
Today, the restaurant and the Maxim's brand belong to Pierre Cardin.

Most of the pix on this page

were taken by Ruby while she toured Paris

in an open-topped BUS.

If ever you visit a “major” UK or European city, the open-topped
“Hop-On / Hop-Off” busses are the BEST DEAL!!!
Your “Hop-On / Hop-Off” bus ticket is good for 24 hours. But!
If you don’t WANT to HOP OFF THE BUS to visit something, you can just
STAY ON THE BUS for a magnificent (and very inexpensive) tour of
ALL the UK or European city’s major landmarks.

The Louvre Museum (Musée du Louvre), in Paris, is the largest,
and arguably the most famous, museum in the world – it received a record 7.3 million
visitors in 2005. A former royal palace, the building lies in the center of Paris, between
the Seine river and the Rue de Rivoli. Its central courtyard, now occupied by the Louvre
Pyramid, lies in the axis of the Champs-Élysées, and thus forms the nucleus from which
the Axe historique springs. Part of the royal Palace of the Louvre was first
opened to the public as a museum on November 8, 1793, during the French Revolution.

Easily recognized by Da Vinci Code fans, the Louvre Pyramid was commissioned
by then French president François Mitterrand, designed by the Chinese-born
American architect I.M. Pei, and completed in 1989. It reaches a height of 20.6
meters (about 70 feet); its square base has sides of 35 meters (115 feet). The pyramid
covers the Louvre entresol and forms part of the new entrance to the museum.

The Arc de Triomphe de l'Etoile {“ahrk duh tree-ohmf' duh lay-twahl'”}, the
world's largest triumphal arch, forms the backdrop for an impressive urban ensemble in
Paris. The monument surmounts the hill of Chaillot at the center of a star-shaped
configuration of 12 radiating avenues. It is the climax of a vista seen the length of the
Champs Elysées from the smaller Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel in the Tuileries gardens,
and from the Obélisque de Luxor in the place de la Concorde.

Remember this photo! LOL
I'll be referring to it on a later page!

After her overnight-stay in Paris, Ruby headed back to LONDON.
