By sheer HAPPENSTANCE, Ruby and I were visiting Canterbury during the week
that the TOURING ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY was performing
THE CANTERBURY TALES IN Canterbury!
[They performed this production at the Eisenhower Theatre
in Washington DC April 15th – May 6th, receiving a well-deserved
STANDING OVATION from each of those audiences!]
Thanx to the Internet, I discovered this schedule and purchased our tickets
WELL IN ADVANCE of our trip. If I hadn’t purchased our tickets before the trip,
we would NOT have been able to attend the show. Each of the RSC Canterbury
performances were “SRO” = “Standing Room Only” … aka, “SOLD OUT!”
Although booked through the MARLOWE THEATRE in Canterbury,
this ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY’s performance of
THE CANTERBURY TALES was presented at the
“KINGS MEAD LEISURE CENTER” in Canterbury –
a sort of GYM and health club – much like a YMCA!
Clearly, Canterbury was extremely PROUD of the RSC performing

“Under the sardonic eye of Chaucer himself, a group of pilgrims each recount a tale to entertain their companions on the road to Canterbury. By turns comic, bawdy and sublime, these great theatrical tales are a vivid testimony to Chaucer’s insight into human nature. This exciting endeavour will … present Chaucer’s stories in different styles, mirroring the many narrative voices employed by Chaucer himself.
All the tales will be spread over two performances.
However Parts One (including the Knight’s, Millers and man of Laws Tales) and Two (including Wife of Bath, merchants and Franklin's Tales) of The Canterbury Tales are self-contained productions, so can be watched in isolation and do not necessarily need to be seen in chronological order.” |

Oh, My GAWDESS!!! This RSC performance was unbelievably
FANTABULOUS! The production was extremely well-written, well-directed,
well-staged, well-acted – SO CREATIVE and SO ENTERTAINING!
If ever you get the opportunity to attend ANY RSC performance …
Just DO IT!!! – No matter WHAT it costs!
