Saturday, May 27th Our Preemptive Foray to Hever Castle
and Dinner at the LITTLE BROWN JUG
Since we couldn’t eat dinner at our hotel, we decided to trek to HEVER CASTLE.
It was sort of a TRIAL RUN to be sure that we could easily find it the next morning
simultaneously looking for a place to EAT as we drove there.
As it happened, that was a WISE MOVE, for several reasons!
First; we found Hever Castle just as they were closing for the day. But, we thus were
able to learn that; because Ruby used a CANE to walk about, we “qualified” for the
“Accessible Parking” (“handicapped” parking) area. That area that was
FAR CLOSER to the festivities than the PUBLIC PARKING areas!
We wouldn’t have known about it, had we not done our “reconnaissance” trip. LOL
THEN, as we were leaving, we saw St. Peter’s Church just outside the
Hever Castle grounds. The church was closed already. But it looked so quaint and
inviting that we walked for a while among the incredibly old graves in the
“KIRK YARD.”
Most old grave stones (1800’s and earlier) are so weathered that their inscriptions
no longer can be deciphered. Such was the case in this Kirk Yard.
Still, it was rather impressive to walk amongst these historic stones
especially when they were too old to be read!

Gadz! I cried when I first deciphered the inscription …
Cried as I took pix of it …
CRIED when I posted its inscription on this page!
I think that qualifies as a “MOVING” inscription. Don’t you?!
[As you’ll see on SUNDAY’s pages, we managed to visit the church the next day.
It’s WONDERFUL!
Had we not done this “reconnaissance” trip, we probably wouldn’t have visited it!]
we had seen this lovely Country Pub while enroute to Hever Castle.
So, we stopped here

I forget what our Entrees were that night … but, I distinctly remember both of them
being incredibly YUMMY. In fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much, that we
came back to have dinner there AGAIN, the NEXT NIGHT!
