CHAS’ & RUBY’S
2006 UK TOUR
Wednesday, May 31st:
STIRLING CASTLE’s
16th Century
GREAT KITCHENS EXHIBIT |
In 1921 (not that long ago!), an archeological excavation discovered the
ORIGINAL 16th century GREAT KITCHENS of STIRLING CASTLE!
In 1689, those kitchen vaults had been filled-in to provide a solid base for the
“GREAT BATTERY” of cannons erected along Stirling Castle’s North Wall.
Not ALL of the 16th century GREAT KITCHENS area has been excavated.
|
|
But, the areas that
HAVE been EXCAVATED
have also been
RECONSTRUCTED
to show what the original
16th Century Kitchens
would have looked like
also demonstrating the
kinds of activities
that occurred there.
They’ve done an
AMAZING JOB! |
I particularly enjoyed wandering around within the
GREAT KITCHENS exhibit.
