StClair Erskine, the 4th Earl of Rosslyn, was the last Grand Master of the “Grand Lodge of Antient, Free and Accepted Masons of Scotland” to be buried at Rosslyn Chapel! |
“In 1880-1, Francis Robert, 4th Earl of Rosslyn, added the apse to serve as a baptistry with an organ loft above. ... The Earl also filled the baptistry arch with the handsome oak tracery which you see today, decorated with his crest. Together with the two Chapel doors, this is the only wood used in the construction of [Rosslyn Chapel].”
Born on the 2nd of March, 1833, the 4th Earl of Rosslyn,
died on the 6th of September, 1890.
any information about the INSCRIPTION that is carved along the east & west sections of the little wall that encloses the gravel in front of this elaborate tomb! |
Ah! Part of a RUBY pic! |
There are two verses of poetry one verse along each side section.
I don’t know who the author is.
I cannot tell which is the “first” verse, and which is the “second” verse!
SO! I’ll just start with THIS one:
Here is the other verse:
ALTOGETHER, here are the two verses!I think those verses are toooo Kool! Not stone or brass.
These perish with the flight of time and quickly pass.
But love endures in every clime,
Eternal as the poet’s rhyme. Not brass or stone.
These will corrode and some day die.
But love alone laughs at decay,
And soars on high to fragrant immortality.
