AN INDEX TO WILL ABSTRACTS IN THE DAVID JONES OF WALLINGTON COLLECTION AT CARDIFF CENTRAL LIBRARY EXTRACTED BY BOB SANDERS 1999/2000

David Jones of Wallington extracted vast amounts of information on Glamorgan and other areas in the 19th century, including many abstracts of wills at Llandaff & at Prerogative Court of Canterbury (PCC). Part of the collection is housed at Cardiff Central Libray and part at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth.

Over a period of several months in 1999 & early 2000 I extracted genealogical data from many of the wills from both Llandaff & PCC which related to Cardiff & the Vale of Glamorgan. Please note. however, that this index relates only to the will details I extracted. It is by no means a full index to the transcripts and abstracts in the collection at Cardiff. David Jones did index them himself but that index has gone missing from the library for many years. There is an index by him to his PCC transcripts/abstracts but most of these are at Aberystwyth.

I will be happy to assist researchers by supplying the details I have extracted for the wills listed in this index. I cannot promise that replies will be quick. I am fairly busy and researchers will have to bear with me. Additionally please note that I cannot search the will extracts at the library free of charge, but only my own notes from the wills. Research which requires consultation at the library will be chargeable. Researchers can, of course, obtain copies of the wills themselves from the National Library of Wales in most cases ('though not all of those extracted by Jones are still in existence at NLW).
