ROBERT WESLEY SANDERS (1899 - 1983)
A nice photo of my father, Robert Wesley Sanders, 2nd son of George Frederick Sanders & Lily (nee Burfitt) taken around 1920. Further photos of my father are on Page 7. |
Uncle George & Auntie Mabel: George Burfitt Sanders was the eldest son of George Frederick Sanders & Lily (nee Burfitt) and was born in Cardiff in 1896. This photo was obviously taken during World War I when George was serving in the Royal Flying Corps. George subsequently ran his own road haulage business in Cardiff & died in 1951. Mabel died in 1963.
Uncle Stan & Auntie Gwen: Thomas Stanley Sanders was the third son of George Frederick Sanders & Lily (nee Burfitt) and was born in Cardiff in 1902. He worked as a driver, driving lorries, cars and coaches for various companies in Cardiff.
Uncle Gordon & Auntie Edith: Gordon Frederick Sanders was the fourth son of George Frederick Sanders & Lily (nee Burfitt) and was born in Cardiff in 1911. He joined his father in the family coal business eventually becoming a partner. He married Edith May Warman in 1943 in Cardiff.
Auntie Edna: Edna Sanders was the only daughter of George Frederick Sanders & Lily (nee Burfitt) and was born in Cardiff in 1904. She had a shop in Grangetown, Cardiff for many years. This photo was taken when she was appearing in an amateur dramatics production. Edna married Alec Hall who worked for the Gas Board. She died in 1990.
