Knife Party

"Knife Party," was inspired by a bizarre drunken party on the band's tour bus. Moreno says that drummer Abe Cunningham collects knives--"like stilettos and butterfly knives"--and distributed them to band members one night. "Abe busted out all his knives and everybody on the bus had a knife and was dancing. It was the stupidest thing, and everybody was laughing about how silly the whole thing was," says Moreno. The knife party became a band joke, and months later, Moreno decided to use it in a song. "I made up this fake scenario of some kind of underworld society of knives, people who just get off on these erotic fantasies," he says. "Or something like that. An 'Eyes Wide Shut' kind of thing."

To me this song is about someone wanting to show themselves to the world soo badly but is afraid that once they do they will not be able to break away from it, and the person the other people see will be disliked or even hated. "Come see inside my bones" This line means they want someone to see deeper into them and find out who they really are. Almost as if this person feels alone in the world and needs to find someone who can relate to understand themselves. "I'm the new king. I taste the queen" But then in the end were all the same, and should not be afraid of showing anything. "In here were all anemic, in here anemic and sweet" The person is telling someone else to "Go get your knife go get your knife and lay down" Meaning to open your true self up and expose it to him. "I can float here forever in this room we cant touch the floor" Meaning that one you have shown who u really are u will feel sooo great that everything you do will feel like your flying, and will be auxillerating! A truly amazing song. Cut yourself open and let everyone including yourself, see who you really are. This is just what I think, I'm sure you could take it many ways. Thanx for your time! - Aaron Harris

I am now certain that white pony is a theme album, I believe that it represents the evolution of chino and another person who is later showed to be a woman. Knife party is the part of their journey together, where chino tries to open himself up to the girl "come see inside my bone" In this world he opens up to her, he is the center of everything the focus "Im the new king, I taste the queen" . Now after opening his inner self up the her... he asks that she do the same " Go get you knife and lay down" He believes that her opening up will make them closer " go get you knife, now kiss me" another great multi level song by chino. - Tom Pancrazio

I think primarily this song is about a guy who gets really jealous of the guys who who thinks are trying to take his girl, so he fights them (go get your knife).  He knows its a stupid and almost cowardly solution, and kind of waxes about innocence lost (in here we're all anemic and sweet).  After he fights the guys, he's still really pissed and wants his girlfriend to prove she still loves him(Lay down....Now kiss me) and for awhile he's happy and believes her.  But then something happens and he gets pissed again, and that's when the really spooky vocals in the background start.  At first it's just a girl singing, but then she starts screaming, like either he's killing her, or he lost a fight.  I think he kills her. ~nelle

It is easy to think of this song as one of suicide and self mutilation. but then I read about Chinos brief comment at the top. And I think, then I think some more and that is all I can conclude "in here we're all anemic" for those of you who don't know that means one is short of iron, the mineral, in the blood. To remedy the problem one would need iron, from a knife lets say, have you ever had a knife cut before? "go get your knife, go get your knife, now kiss me" so yeah I know it sounds stupid and I choose to take the lyrics literally but so what, some times the simplest answer is the easiest. maybe its not in this case. and I know, I am really deviating from the subject. all I know is that it is a pivotal part in the 'Tones album by that I mean it is a great song dare I say one of the best ever. Hell maybe its about an actual knife party, where you bring along your knife collection. And Abe got cut. One things for sure those wailing lyrics are special. -Skizz

I know Chino has his meaning for the song but like all deftones songs they mean different things to different people but to me, this song means suicide. "go get your knife and lay with me" says it all it is about a guy who cant go on and he wants the world to go with him. That is what it means to me! brad
