Chapter Twenty-Five

Chapter Twenty-Five: “Um, I was gay for a while there, but now I’m not. I think maybe you should come over so that we can have sex.”

“Whoa! Check out that hot chick!”

“Tay!” Isaac exclaimed, “You can’t check out chicks! You’re gay!”

“Oh yeah.”

“Why don’t you check out that guy instead?” he suggested, gesturing toward some guy.

“Ewwwww, I don’t want to check out a guy.”

“Taylor, you’re gay! You have to check out guys!”

“Well if being gay involves checking out guys, I’m not being gay anymore.”

“You’re weird!”

“Whatever, I don’t care. Now, back to what I was doing. Check out that hot chick!”

I looked ahead at the screen of the computer. It had been dialing for about ten minutes now. “Damn it! I can dial faster than that!”

Caty walked past the door and looked at me strangely.

“Ike! Where’s Mom and Dad and the kids?”

“They went to see that double feature thing at the movies, Pochahantas II and something else, I forget what.”

“Oh. Well, did Mom leave us any money?”

“Yeah.”

“Then order a pizza!”

“I can’t.”

“Why not?”

“I’m saving the money for my college tuition.”

“I’m gonna tell Mom.”

“Tay, I need to start saving change and stuff, I’ll graduate high school in about four monthes, and then I have three monthes of Summer, but I should be enrolled by the end of June, or I won’t get in,and I only have fifty-three cents so far.”

“Oh, well, order a pizza, you don’t need to go to college. You’ll just flunk out anyway.”

“I forget the number.”

“Call 411.”

“You mean 1-411.”

I looked ahead at the screen of the computer. It had been connecting at 40000 bps for about twenty minutes now. “Damn it! I can connect faster than that!”

Caty wandered into the room and commented, “Yes, you can.”

I looked over at her and grinned, standing up and putting my arms around her waist, kissing her mouth.

“Zac, if you’re thinking about connecting, you can forget it, it’s that time of the month.”

I frowned and commented, “Damn it, I wish you’d just stop getting those damn magazines.”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“I can’t connect with you because it’s that time of the month. You know, the time of the month when you get girly magazines like YM and Seventeen that encourage you to ditch your boyfriend and be an ‘independant girl,’ and be prim and not have sex until you’re married and stuff.”

“Zac, that’s not what I mean.”

“Then what do you mean?”

She took a deep breath and started to explain, “You see, when a woman reaches a certain age..........”

I listened intently through the entire speech, my eyes widening in excitement at some parts.

I had finally managed to pin Tay after twenty minutes of wrestling. “1-411!”

“Dumbass, if you have to dial 1 before the number, that doesn’t change the number itself to 1 whatever!”

“Yes it does!”

“Does not!

“Does too!”

“Well, why don’t we just call and ask the 411 guy? He should know.”

“The 1-411 guy!”

I looked down at the small strip of paper in my hand. it had a line on it. According to the comercials, that meant I was pregnant. How the hell am I gonna tell Zac? And when I do, what’ll he do? Will he be happy? He’s always said he wanted to have a family, and he wanted to have it with me. Will he be pissed off? He might not be too happy about being a father at age fourteen.

Zac walked through the door. He strolled over to me and, I think he was about to kiss me, but he spotted the peice of paper in my hand.

“Cambridge? What’s a line mean?”

I looked up at him and flinched as I told him, “Pregnant.”

He looked at me and exclaimed, “You’re pregnant!?”

I nodded pitifully.

He looked very, very angry.

He back handed me across the face and continued, “How the hell can you be pregnant! We used protection, every single time! This fucking can’t be happening! I don’t Goddam fucking need this!”

I cowered in fear as he continued to storm around the apartment yelling profanity.

When he was done with his big rage, he noticed that I was clutching at my face and near tears.

His eyes widened as he realized what he had done.

He rushed over to me and put his arms around me, saying, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean it, I was just upset. I’m sorry, oh I’m so sorry.” He kept comforting me in a similar fashion until I was okay again.

We made up and made love, and all was well.

“Yeah! Sailor Moon!” I cheered as the Japanese cartoon character ran around doing stuff.

Isaac flopped down next to me, eating a slice of pizza and commented, “Sailor Moon’s hot.”

“Yeah, so’s Sailor Mars.”

“Sailor Mars is a hottie.”

“Um, Cam?” Zac asked me.

I rolled over in bed and looked at him. “Yeah?”

“I love you.”

“I love you too, Zac.”

“Will you marry me? You know, now that you’re pregnant and all, I think it might be a good idea.”

“Of course!” I exclaimed, and wrapped my arms around him, kissing him deeply. We made love once again that day.

I picked up the phone and dialed Sydney’s number.

Someone picked up. I recognized the voice as belonging to Sydney. I greeted her, “Hey Syd, I’m not gay anymore. Wanna come over?”

“What the hell are you talking about?” she asked.

“Um, I was gay for a while there, but now I’m not. I think maybe you should come over so that we can have sex.”

“Um, Tay, you were gay?”

“Yeah, but then I got really sick of people expecting me to like guys, so I forgot about it.”

“Um, okay then.”
