Matthew 9:13-Jesus said "...I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
Matthew 4:17-Jesus said "...Repent: for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand"
So what is "repenting"?
Two words in Hebrew are translated into "repent". First, Nacham (naw-kham)-by implication, "to be
sorry" and second, Shuwb (shoob)-the primary root word is "to turn back" but also used for "to retreat, convert,
deliver, draw back, restore, return, say nay, and withdraw"
There are three Greek words that are translated into "repent". First, Metamellomai (met-am-el-lom-ahee) which means
to regret. Second, Metanoeo (met-an-o-eh-o) which is to think differently afterwards, ie: reconsider. And third, Metanoia
(met-an-oy-ah) which is a compunction for guilt, including reformation. By implication: reversal. And finally,
Websters 21st Century Dictionary defines "Repent" as 'regret as wrong or mistaken' So to repent we must
realize we have been wrong and are sinners. All of us are sinners. Romans 3:23 tells us "For all have sinned, and come
short the glory of God."
Next step is to "Convert" or turn away from your sin.
Matthew 7:21-"Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the
will of my Father which is in heaven."
And what is that will? Go back and re-read 2 Peter 3:9. It is God's will that ALL should come to repentance.
As some have brought to my attention there is no actual "Prayer of Salvation" written word for word in the Bible. The following
prayer is a guideline. A jump start if you will. It's not a "magic cure-all", just my way of helping you to open the lines
of communication to The Father. Don't just 'say' the words, 'mean' the words. Feel free to add your own words.
Dear Heavenly Father
I come before you a sinner. I ask you Father to forgive me of all my sins. Cleanse
me and make me whole in your eyes Father. I believe that Jesus Christ is your only
begotten son, and that He died for me on Calvary. I believe that Jesus rose again
and now sits at your right hand Father, making intercession for me. I thank you
Father for forgiving me of my sins. I praise you for your mercy and your grace.
Place your word on the fleshy tables of my heart Father. In the name of Jesus I
pray, amen.
Once you've prayed, then what? Rejoice! You're not the only one who will
be rejoicing. Jesus said in Luke 15:7 "I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven
over one sinner that repenteth, more than over the ninety and nine just persons, which
need no repentance." In Luke 15:10 Jesus again reiterates "Likewise, I say unto you, there is
joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth."
Should you be baptized? YES!
When giving a commission to the disciples before His ascension, Jesus said in Matthew 28:19-
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, 'Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of
the Son, and of the Holy Ghost'"
Seek and follow god's will for your life and pray earnestly that God will lead you to a Bible
believing and teaching church so that you may grow in His word!
The angels in heaven are rejoicing with you as well. Praise God!!!
