Katie likes gymnastics, soccer, pretending to be a ballerina, playing with her dolls and barbies, and riding on her pink bicycle! She loves Mary Kate and Ashley, Nickelodean and Fox Family's Real Scary Stories. Katie also likes to help me in the kitchen. Together we read lots of books, and we love to listen to the Adventures in Odyssey audio tapes in the car. First grade is going great - she LOVES it! She is learning about teeth, the food pyramid, using the computer, and so much more! She likes chasing the boys on the playground at school too ~ just like mommy did at her age! We went to Pizza Bingo night at school a few weeks ago - was a blast! She also attended her secpnd Tiny Little Tea Party, put on by Grandmama last weekend at the Hallmark store - very fun! Today we spent the day at the Mall of Georgia, having lunch and watching an IMAX 3D movie ~ Very fun! You can send her an e-card at mommy's address ~ aimeeenelson@earthlink.net
We like to stay busy as bees. If you do too, give some of these fun things a try!
Tornado Bottles
We have made the tornado bottles just using one two liter bottle. Fill most of the way with water. add a drop or two of dishwashing liquid. Add something at the bottom for weight (we usually use 3 or 4 small pebbles because they are available, or you can use those tiny plastic houses from a Monopoly game!) Add food coloring and glitter if you desire. Put the lid on TIGHT! Cover with electrical tape to keep from leaking. Swirl the bottle using a circular motion. The tornado will form in it.
~Volcano Bottles ~ 1 16 oz soda bottle, filled 2/3 with warm water and 5 drops red food coloring. Add 1/4 cup vinegar to the bottle through a funnel, add 1 Tbs. baking soda Voila - a volcanic eruption! Make sure to do this one in your kitchen sink, so the mess isn't so bad to clean up!
Make your own butter!
Half fill a mason type jar or baby food jar with whipping cream. Tighten lid and shake like crazy. After several minutes listen to the different sounds as the cream thickens and then liquefies again. When you have a solid lump of butter, pour off whey, add salt to butter, and serve on crackers. Better than the stuff from the store!
Stickers
Cut out magazine pictures. Make sticker glue using 1 tablespoon flavored gelatin mix and 2 tablespoons boiling water. Brush on back of picture and let dry. Later, lick and stick!!
Edible Playdough
2 cups smooth peanut butter
2 cups rolled oats
2 cups powdered milk
2/3 cup honey
optional: rice krispies
Wash hands first! Then let your child mix all the ingredients until thoroughly combined. Let them play with this dough on either a surface covered with wax paper or a cookie sheet. Give them the entire bowl of playdough and watch them create some cool stuff!! And, it is good to eat, too!
