The 1928 English Book of Common Prayer was the culmination of many years of effort to revise the 1662 BCP to meet with the liturgical insights of the High Church Movement. It represents a very distinct move back in the direction of the 1549 Prayer Book, and it came to be regarded as the best Prayer Book England never had.
Although full authorised by both Convocation and the Church Assembly, the 1928 Prayer Book never received the Parliamentry sanction needed for it to legally replace the 1662, however, the vast majority of English Bishops regarded it as containing the only permissible deviations from the 1662 BCP authorised by the Anglican Church. As a Continuing Church, the Anglican Episcopal Church in Great Britain continues that policy.
Use of the 1928 Proposed Prayer Book is allowed in this jurisdiction as an alternative to 1662 Prayer Book and the 1549 Order of Holy Communion or the Mass.
