Now we are FINALLY going to talk about the HANSON concert. During the Wallflowers happy time, the curtain (which was covering the stage) started moving, all the young teenies in front would start screaming. That would cause other young teenies around us to scream, and then Louise would stand up to see what was going on. And of course, all she would see is the curtain moving or a stagehand walking near the stage. Nothing important.
Well, around 8:15, we were kind of wondering what happened to Hanson. Most concerts start at 8. So we both stood up (because we can do that. We have legs, you know.). Then we heard Zac's voice. He was testing out his microphone in another language. Louise started jumpimg up and down, and grabbed my arm. Even though she is only 5'1", she can certainly hurt you. Just thought you would like to know. Anyways, then we heard Tay saying "check" (for obvious reasons). Louise freaked out even more.
Then we heard the opening chords of "Gimme Some Lovin'". Well, of course, 19,000 girls started screaming (that's how many the newspaper said was there. and you know that papes don't lie.). We started dancing (like Elwood. It's just not the same w/o Jake!) and singing along. The little girls started to stare again. Those little girls have problems. One of their mums was ASLEEP during most of the concert. How can you sleep when 19,000 girls are screaming? She must have hearing problems or something. Moving on... that song started into "Shake your Tail Feather." And the girls stared at us again. (Poor little girls have never seen Blues Brothers...).
After that, Tay started talking (he did that after every song practically). Check out the quotes page for things he said. Then they played "Where's the Love." That song was a bloody 10 minutes. Then they played other songs from Middle of Nowhere (their album). Ike mentioned a sign in the audience (lawn, actually) that said "play "Stories"." So, being the nice boys they are, they played "Stories". They played a new song, called "Ever Lonely." It was pretty spiffy.
They covered "Money", and the background was green. How appropriate. For those of you who don't remember that song, think of Empire Records..."This song is dedicated to Lucas, our employee of the week." Then about halfway through the show, Tay said that they needed a break and they left the stage.
Then Ike came on (to me. I wish.) the stage by himself and sat in front of the keyboards. He sang "More than Anything." It was pretty kick-ass considering the fact that it was only Ike and the keyboards. Also, the large screens would show Ike's hands. For some reason, during this song, Louise's mum stood up very quickly from where she had being sitting the entire time, and started looking at Ike with the binoculars. She was staring for quite awhile. We had to take the binoculars from her. She wouldn't let go. (We think she has a secret crush on Ikey-poo)(also, she probably likes Zac and Tay too, but she's doing less "cradle-robbing" with Ike. Thanks Susan.)
Also, during the show those nice Hanson boys decided to introduce their back-up band, while "jammin". After the intros, Tay stopped playing the keyboard and walked behind Zac and started pointing at him. And of course the girls screamed. Then Zac stopped playing drums and Tay took over. The boys sure are talented. Zac went into the crowd and made it back safely. They played "With You in Your Dreams".It was sad, and we couldn't dance to it.
During the concert, the little brothers decided to shoot the crowd with water balloons. They actually ATTEMPTED to shoot the crowd. They had this slingshot/water balloon thing. However, the balloons kept falling off. Zac was commenting on the situation. They did get it to work once, but then they gave up and just threw the balloons. They also had super soakers and shot the audience with those too. I think they have this weird obsession with getting the audience wet.
The last song of the evening was "Man From Milwaukee." Zac did his "mother bird" thing, but he didn't have the megaphone so it sounded a little different. We couldn't hear him very well over the screaming, but it was still spiffy. Then Hanson left the stage. But we knew they would be back.
The audience started screaming "Hanson!" over and over. Then Zac said (from behind the curtain), "Do you guys want us back?" Then Tay said "We'll only come back if you scream as loud as you can."... then he said "Okay, I think that qualifies."
Then of course they came back. They sang "Look At You", "Speechless", and the "Summertime Blues." "Summertime" is a very good song. Ike would do these interesting voices, including an Elvis impersonation. Then Ike walked over to Tay and started sharing a mike with him. So Tay took his conga mike and Ike played the keyboards. Tay started walking around the stage and having the audience sing the refrain.
Then he went crazy again and grabbed his super soaker and started squirting the crowd of screaming teenagers. Then they stopped playing, and Tay was shaking girls' hands in the front rows (well, that's what we saw. He was probably checking them out. He's single, you know.). He seemed to be rolling on the stage. Zac said "We're going to sing one more thing for you if Tay ever gets over here." That was Tay's cue to move. Ike had a mic and Zac was on his right, Tay on his left. Tay snapped his fingers, and they started singing "Weird" accapella. They said it was great, and they held hands and bowed three (Louise actually counted) times. Then they left the stage. And we walked to the car. Then Louise's mum jumped the curb to get into the street (quite interesting). On the way home, we were singing Rod Stewart. We were in a weird mood.
Random notes~ We saw Walker videotaping some the show. Ike was dancing on the stage a bit and was standing on Zac's drumstage (brotherly love). Unfortunately, Ike didn't slide across the stage on his knees (the one thing we were looking for). Tay was wearing this ugly lime green shirt. About four songs into the concert, he TOOK IT OFF to reveal a TIGHT white shirt underneath. Thank goodness he didn't take off that shirt. We would have been scared.
Three days and four pages later... our Hanson concert review is finished. Thanks for reading. Sign the guestbook if you have not already. ~Astrid and Louise.
