A Washington, D.C. memorial to Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. is no longer only a dream. The National Capital
Planning Commission (NCPC) has approved a prominent tidal basin site on the
Washington mall for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, making the project
a reality. December 4th, 2000 marked the day that the site was reserved.
Brothers Ashley Hoover, Donovan Kirkland and Vernon Clement (not pictured)
were on hand for the event. Bros. Hoover and Kirkland captured in the
Washington Post, singing the hymn. The Washington, D.C.
Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Foundation is a project of the Alpha
Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., of which Dr. King was a member. In 1998, the
fraternity was authorized by the United States Congress to establish a
foundation to manage the fundraising and design of a memorial to Dr. King.
The Foundation has until November 12, 2003 to raise the money for the
memorial and break ground. For more information about the project, go to www.mlkmemorial.org. The Chapter participated in the
Association of North Carolina Alphamen (ANCA) District Convention during the
weekend of November 17-19, 2000 and was crowned Stepshow winners. In September of 2001 their talent was once more shown at the Aggie/Eagle Classic, and for fear of sounding repeatative they once more won 1rst place at 2002 Aggie/Eagle stepshow! For all the Brothers who missed it and all the older bros that used to hold the chapter down.
