APPENDIX F
A literal latter rain was the last rain before the harvest and it brought the crop to its full fruitaion. The promise of a spiritual latter rain, to help those who were trying to come out of Babylon and finish the work of God was promised by Zecheriah but if you read it it is primarily promised to those in the last days. Here are some texts that will help to explain what it is:
"In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain" Prov. 16:15. "He shall come down like rain upon mown grass: as showers that water the earth" Ps. 72:6.
"Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord. (3) If ye walk in my statues, and keep my commandments, and do them; (4) Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. (5) And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your safely. (6) And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land. (7) (10) And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new. (11) And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you. (12) And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people." Lev 26:3-12.
"Ask ye of the Lord rain in the time of the latter rain; so the Lord shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field." Zech 10:1.
"And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil." Deut. 11:13,14.
"Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:" Deut. 32:1,2.
"Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob my servant; and thou, Jesrusalem, whom I have chosen. (3)"For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:" Isa. 44:2,3.
"Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. (13) Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men." Hosea 10:12,13.
"Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. (24) and the floors shall be full of wheat..... And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, and hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. (27) And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed. (28) And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, our old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions; (29) and also upon the servanst and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. (30) and I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. (31) the sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come. (32) and it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call." Joel 2: 23-32.
