THE JEEP AUDIO PAGE

Welcome to my audio page

The 1st modifications I made when I bought my jeep was the decision to remove the horrid factory radio and speakers. In every other car and truck I've owned,I have always had aftermarket stereo systems in them. But since I've never owned a convertable,I knew this was going to be a challenge from the start. So the 1st thing I did after I bought my Jeep was head over to Hi-Fi Buys in Morrow,GA to get with Hobart(salesman) and Matt(head installer). Most of the equipment that is in my jeep came out of my Toyota 4x4 so I had a good basis to start on.I wanted a quality stealth installation since the top is off my jeep 9 out of 12 months a year. 1st step-finding a home for the front components. Matt at Hi-Fi buys fabricated a set of fiberglass kick panels in the front floorboards in the front to house my JL Audio 6.5"woofers and 1" tweeters as well as the crossovers. When I picked my jeep up I was totally surprised at the quality and craftsmanship of the kick panels.Although on the drivers side the woofer was directly under the clucth. But to my amazement there is a half inch of space so the clutch doesnt hit the speakers. step 2-Install of the cd player and pre amp The dash in the jeep was kind of awkward so I had Hi-FI buys install the Kenwood cd player and Audio Control FOUR.ONE pre-amp.They had to fabricate a bracket to fit the 2 together, once again I was surprised and still very happy with the install of the 2.The Kenwood cd player features the MASK technology where the faceplate flips around once the unit is powered off.So this is very theft deterant, the pre-amp is also kina countersunk so you really cant see it either..once again very stealth. step 3-installing the amps and subwoofers. I had 2 amps leftover from my toyota.Soundstream reference 300 and an Alpine Mvr 501t. The only place tp mount either of these amps in stealth places is under the rear seat. Not my 1st choice, but I didnt want to mount them on the subwoofer box.I also had 2 JL-Audio 8w6 subs leftover. So i built a box for the 2 and installed both amps.I was very happy with the sound quality of the subs and front speakers. So after about a month I decided to buy a 3rd subwoofer and have Hi-Fi Buys build the enclosure for them.Once again I was very happy with the quality and craftsmanship. The box looks just like an add a trunk. Now I have more bass than I can handle so I opted to replace the soundbar speakers with a set of 5.25" coaxials from Boston Acoustics. They sound very good, even better after I filled the bar with polyfill.Last but not least was the addition of a crossover which I also had leftover from my Toyota. It is a very basic 3 way electronic crossover made by Mtx and is installed under the drivers seat. Overall I am very happy with the sound my system produces. It is very respectable for a jeep with the top on or off. I do plan on adding some more tweeters and woofers to the front after the JL's wear out.

Below are pictures of my audio components

Not to good of a picture of the kick panels. But they are very hard to see, even in the jeep!
