From the Preacher's Desk

Some have suggested that preaching and news reporting should not be flavored with the OPINIONS of its originator. It is my observation that the withholding of opinion is both unavoidable and undesirable. In preaching, my OPINION comes from the way I read and apply the Scriptures. Even Jesus asked the two-fold question, (Luke 10:26 KJV) "What is written in the law? how readest thou?" The way I read the Scriptures, and what they mean to me is all I have to go on. We can profit by considering and comparing the judgments of different men.

Even in the New Testament, the Apostle Paul said in response to a question, (1 Cor. 7:25 NASB) "Now concerning virgins I have no command of the Lord, but I give an opinion (JKV, judgment) as one who by the mercy of the Lord is trustworthy."

He told the Hebrews, (Heb. 5:14 NASB) "But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil."

I offer the following expositions, observations and thoughts based on some 50-years+ in Bible study and teaching. However, as with all Scriptural commentaries, I urge you to consider the thoughts presented, prayerfully study the Bible and reason for yourself. As the Apostle Paul said, (Phil 2:12 NRSV) "…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." And again, (2 Tim 2:7 KJV) "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things."
