Comments: | Not a bad release, typical of audience recordings from this time frame. Includes the "Eclipse" version of DSotM, with the Instrumental Jam and Mortality Sequence. The renown "Preacher Tape" is clearly audible during the Mortality Sequence. "Time" is the mellow version from this early era. The bonus tracks are from another release called "The Darkside Rehearsals", which was the first time "Eclipse" was performed on January 20, 1972. Unfortunately, the equipment broke down during the start of "Money" so the band bailed and went on to play other songs including a kick-ass version of "A Saucerful of Secrets" without the vocals (which is on "The Darkside Rehearsals" CD). Overall, quality is decent, very little hiss though the low end sounds a bit suppressed. Keyboards and vocals are most prominent in the mix, but all instruments are there. Probably not the best Japan '72 show available, but not a pair of coasters either. There are a few drop-outs, but these occur between songs and are not too distracting. |
