"I Don't Want to Hurt You"

C.J. Ingerson
1/15/99

Verse 1
********

When I fell down you were always there
you made me laugh by asking me instead
if I hurt the floor, and I knew you would care
for I would answer, stopped crying and said,

Verse 2
********

you know I didn't hurt the floor, but you ask
and then I laugh and you hold me closely
until all my hurts and tears are dried at last
then again I run and play forgetting it mostly.

Verse 3
********

Yet when you come to me and say I love you
and tenderly almost adoringly you hold me
I look at you saying, "I want this to be true."
then you look into my eyes and I can see,

Verse 4
********

you really love me and I don't want to hurt you
sometimes I want to run away and hide then
for the evil I perceive in me when you are true
yet you hold me even closer for me to defend.

Verse 5
********

How can you love me so much with all you know
and you always make me laugh when I want to cry
is all this for real, that you care for me, or just show
here every night when I pray to not to live only die,

Verse 6
********

only to know that every night you pray for me to live
how can you love me so, when I am who I am to see
where does all this love come from, so much you give
you are the definition of adoration especially to me.
