"Poems From the Heart of a Child"

"When I Cry"

Verse 1 ******** Why do I cry is it I am scared or to be alone maybe attention to draw me to a you or another?	Verse 2 ******** Why do I cry when another hurts but it isn't an I so why do my tears fall in droplets for another now?
Verse 3 ******** Why do I cry before punishment and then after forgotten the what in a life so short yet so long to me?	Verse 4 ******** Why do I cry at a sad movie or when a dog a cat, is hurt and I can't help so I sit and cry?
Verse 5 ******** Why do I cry kneeling in prayer for someone who's sick or hurt or sad and I feel all bad inside for them?	Verse 6 ******** When I cry sometimes it is because I'm happy and not just always sad I don't understand this so to you all I ask now is why do I a child cry?

"Oil For My Lamp"

Verse 1
*

Mother told me when I cry
for myself, I just water the lawn
but if I'm worried and caring
for another then my tears
are the oil for my lamp.

Verse 2

When I asked, "What lamp?"
She said, "The one for Father."
I replied, "Dad needs a lamp?"
She said, "Heavenly Father
wants you to have a lamp."

Verse 3

"What for, we've lights
and at night flashlights,
why do I need a lamp
which take oil, and how
do my tears become oil?"

Verse 4

Well then she opened
her scriptures as she has
before when I ask questions
she takes me seriously,
I know when she opens them.

Verse 5

She turned to a well worn part
and told me about some virgins
five who were wise, five not
and how five had oil, five not
then she asked how the five did.

Verse 6
**

I said, "Because they cried
tears for others, they had oil?"
She said, "Yes because the tears
for others if accompanied with
service to others turn to oil."

Verse 7

"That is neat," I said,
"Now how do I start
where is my lamp now,
who helps puts in the oil?"
Then mom gave me a big hug.

"Mom This is Too Hard"

Verse 1
*

I just can't do it, no way!
It is too hard for me.
Why do they make things
so hard for little kids anyway?

Verse 2

For once it wasn't mom
who answered my complaining
but dad came and sat by me
and said, "What is too hard?"

Verse 3

I said, "All of it, everything!"
He said, "What would you like
to be made easier, tell me?"
I said, "All of it, everything!"

Verse 4

Then he gave me his smile,
for some reason I felt like
the fly in the spiders web
and there was no place to go.

Verse 5

He started, "Man by nature
wants things easily, the easier
the better for some, is this
would you want, everything?"

Verse 6

"Yes!" I answered knowing
it was the wrong answer
but he had me anyway now
and I was going to hold on.

Verse 7

"Why, would you want
everything to be easy?"
He asked in his gentle voice
for just he and I to hear.

Verse 8

"Then I would be happy,
I'd get everything done
on time, neat and correct,
I'd be almost perfect."

Verse 9

He asked, "Is that what
you really want is perfect?"
I said, "Sure then no one
one would be mad at me."

Verse 10

He then continued, "But this
was never in the Plan, easy.
Happiness is the fruit of the tree
well planted, nurtured and cared for."

Verse 11

"A garden to grow needs to be
pruned, and loved, worked at
if it were easy it would never
get done, and you would not grow."

Verse 12

"My teacher says I will grow,
if I eat my vegetables and stay
healthy," I said. And slowly
he gathered me in his arms.

Verse 13

"My lovely child it is not physical
growth of which I speak to you."
He paused, then continued, "You
are a special child of Heavenly Father."

Verse 14

"Not a whim or found by mistake;
work is a requirement of growth,
for a moment in time and happiness
is found in a lifetime of love and service."

Verse 15

"If all was easy, you'd never grow
to learn to know of the good and bad
of how that which is easy teaches little
what requires effort provides growth."

Verse 16

"Does everything have to be hard?"
And as a father holding me close,
he said, "No child just those things
which are the most important to know."

Verse 17

"How will I learn to do the difficult?"
"I will help you, and there will be
others called to do the same for you,
none of us can do the difficult alone."

Verse 18

Even now with the years gone by
I remember wanting things to be easy
and as my children ask the some of me
I respond to them as my dad did to me.

"In My Heart"

Verse 1
*

Heavenly Father why were
mommy and daddy so mad?
Is it in me that I've done
something somehow bad?

Verse 2

I've cried till I hurt within
when I hear them scream.
All I want to do is be held
and this to be a bad dream.

Verse 3

How do I get them to stop
long enough to have prayer?
As small as I am to see or be
can I let them know I care?

Verse 4

You've taught me by them
that anger accomplishes naught.
Yet you've told me in my hymns
that love can remove a bad thought.

Verse 5

With my prayer to you now
Heavenly Father please share
with them how much I hurt
when they seemingly don't care.

Verse 6

You've told me love can move
a mountain or a rivers course,
and that prayers can do the same
please help not to get a divorce.

Verse 7

Wait here they come just now
they've stopped screaming.
They are both now crying
promising to keep on trying.

Verse 8
**

Yes the hymns were right
and little flowers can grow.
Given love to till the ground
with my prayer answered so.

Verse 9

Thank you Heavenly Father
I know you are always there.
My mom and dad taught me
if I asked that you would care.

"Tonight is Easy"

Verse 1

Tonight it is easy to say my prayers
for there is a tenderness in the air
and I can gently on my knees feel
all the world and ever Heaven fair.

Verse 2

It is so apparent in you I love so
that this evening you for me care
so that as I kneel to you to tell
all I did today is for you to share.

Verse 3

The tenderness of your touch
is found in warmth from above
for you are the Master of all
and I know it's me you love.

Verse 4
**

So tonight it is easy for me to say
Heavenly Father I love you so much.
Now with all this said bless my parents
with the warmth of your heavenly touch.
