Plum Orchard, Cumberland Island
April 26, 1998
This was our first club trip and I was excited about being trip leader because it is so pretty on Cumberland Island.
We left Crooked River State Park boat ramp around 10 a.m. and paddled to the right down Crooked River.
We followed the river until we hit the Intercoastal Waterway and followed it north until we could see Plum Orchard on the right.
We arrived on the island about 11:30.
There is a dock where you can leave the boats.
There is an entrance fee of $3 and there is a drop box at the sign as you get off the dock.
We ate lunch on the picnic tables and porch. After lunch, some went for a hike across the island to the beach side.
It was about an hour hike, but it was worth it. There was a lot of sand dollars and shells.
The water was warm and we had a great time swimming.
We stayed on the island for about 3 1/2 hours before heading back to Crooked River State Park.
On the way back, we saw a dolphin with a baby. That was great. They followed along side our kayaks the whole way back to the park.
