Springfield's Finests

No other rifles defined Springfield Armory more then the Model 1903 and the Garand. Each played an important role in their respective wars and later proved themselves as national match rifles.

Model 1903 and Model 1905 Bayonet

It has been said that if the Mauser was a hunting rifle and the Enfield was a battle rifle, then the Springfield is a target rifle. This pretty much describes the 1903. Built to replace the Krag 30-04, the 1903 copied much of the Mauser design. So much so, that the US paid royalties to Mauser during it's production. Probably more then the rifle itself, the ammunition developed for the 1903 forever defined thier place in history. Without exception, the Springfield 30-06 has taken it's place as the worlds most versatile round.
