This is a beautiful .40 caliber southern mountain rifle with a full length cherry stock. This particular rifle is a percussion gun with single phase, double set triggers. It has all iron furniture, and is an interpretation of the type of rifle that would have been used in the southern mountains after about 1840 to 1850.

Some folks still used this style of rifle up through the 1920s and 1930s in some areas of the southern mountains. I feel sure that there are still many in daily use even today.

If you have photographs of some of the settlements , forts, artifacts or weapons that are correct to this time period (1740-1850), please let us know so that we can include them in our photo album.
