Hi Diane, long time since I've e-mailed you. George Ann sent me a copy of your e-mail asking about Charity Mathis. I know that Lazura Jones (William's older brother) married a Betty Mathis. I don't know if Betty and Charity are the same person or if Charity was married to Betty's brother. I don't know what other ties the Jones and Mathis have, but William and Ursula named one of their daughters Charity and I've never seen that name on the Caldwell line. I have been interested in the Jones/Mathis relationship for a long time but haven't had time to research it. If you discover anything pass it along. Thomas and Jane (Caldwell) Jones and the John Jones (who is bying from "OMC" estate) are two of the names we are going to work on this June in SLC.

I would love to find info on this family. William 'Tom' Jones was the brother of my grandmother. I have some great pictures of this family.
They lived in Riverdale section of Clayton Co. I found a marriage of a Wallace Jones to a Spivey, but do not know if this is right. I feel sure that these burials in King Cemetery are of this family. Dates seem to match.

I have much ancestry for this Wm. Thomas Jones but nothing down from him. I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Wynelle Chaney Holden researching Jones, Reeves, Thombs, Patterson, all of Fayette co.

I am trying to find information on William Ransome Jones who was born in Georgia. He died in DeKalb County, Georgia and is buried in the Peachtree Baptist Church Cemetery. Was married to Elizabeth Wallace. Have found nothing on him or his ancestors. Can't even find him in census records. He had a son, James Alvin Jones who was born in Gwinnett County, Georgia - but that's about all I know. Any help would be appreciated.

Anna,
I have a Ransom JONES b 1827 md Elizabeth WALLIS 18 Jan 1847 Gwinnett Co Ga. He is the son of George W JONES and Maria CALDWELL. Ransom had a son James A. age 10/12 months listed on the 1850 census of Gwinnett Co Ga.

You didn't give any dates so I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for. I've seen Elizabeth maiden named spelled WALLIS and WALLACE.

Thanks for the information Ruby. I sent you an email (by the address on Genealogy.com and wondered if you had gotten it. I called my aunt who is 94 and she is so excited about finding her great-grandfather! Are you related to these Jones' also? We have some questions about George W's son (David) on the 1850 census being listed as 23 and Ransome is also listed as 23 and wonder if they were brothers. Leila Mae, my aunt, said she had heard that someone had adopted a child somewhere way back. And futher down the same page is a Curtis Jones who is a Farmer, is this one of George W's son, also? Another question is how did you find out Maria's last name was CALDWELL? Sorry we have so many questions, but we all both so excited about this rich fine. You have made our day!!

How thrilling to find other descendants of Lazarus! I thought that I was the only one out there...My grandmother is the grgrgranddaughter of Lazarus. Our line from him is John L. b.@1823 married to Martha Duncan ,John Winston Jones b Sept 6,1856 married Martha Louellen McCoy, Charles Luther Jones b.Dec 25,1884 Tiplersville MS. This line was in Blount co.,AL for quite awhile. My info says John L. was born in Gwinnett co,GA but there is no proof. I have always thought that maybe Lazarus' father was Thomas C. Jones b. 1772 SC. He was a Rev.War vet who was given land in Blount co.,AL. Our family has always been told that Thomas' father was from Wales. He left for his health..they were going to hang him if he didn't leave. I don't have definite proof, but I do have more info..would love to exchange info..Terri

Dear JONES descendants,
My wife is descended from these men.
Lazarus was born in Spartanburg in 1797. He married Betty MATHIS bef.1823. He was one of the first residents of Gwinnett Co., GA. His mother was Jane CALDWELL b.1778 in Spartanburg.
Family stories have Thomas JONES' ancestry from Wales.

Sons of Lazarus were: Thomas, John L., Zeke, and George JONES.

Yours truly, Rick Weber

Dear L.D.,

My wife's ancestor, Lazarus JONES (1797-aft.1835) married Betty MATHIS (1799-aft.1823). They were born in Spartanburg. Lazarus' parents were Thomas JONES (1772-aft.1820) and Jane CALDWELL (1778-aft.1820) were also born in Spartanburg.

Your Samuel seems too old to have been Sarah's father. Perhaps there is a connection here. I noticed your MATHIS query.

Yours truly, Rick

Dear Scott,

There may be some connection. My wife's Lazarus JONES may have been the Lazarus in Floyd County, GA. The Spartanburg, SC MATHIS/JONES relationship seems promising, also. Perhaps we should research Rome, GA more thoroughly.
Where do you live?

Sounds good to me if Charity is a Jones. Thomas and Jane had 3 Felmales listed on the different census. 1born between 1794-1800, 1 1800-1804 (this female could be Peggy) 1 1800-1810 (this one could be a Mary who md Henry WELLS). The names Peggy and Mary came from others working on Jones in Gwinnett. We will just have to work harder in puting the Jones family together. That was one of the families George Ann and I are going to work on, along with the John JONES who bought from "OMC" estate in SLC this June.

I found a Thomas JONES on the 1800 census of Greenville SC. that looks like a good match. Mathew CALDWELL (son of "OMC") sold 2 pieces of land to William HODGES in Greenville before he left to go to Ky in late 1790's. So we know some of the CALDWELL kids were there.

Thomas JONES: 1 female over 45 (before 1755) I wonder if this is mother Sarah CALDWELL.
1 male and 1 female 26-45 (1755-1774) Thomas and Jane
1 female 10-16 (1784-1790) Charity
5 male and 3 female under 10 ( 1790-1880).
One of the females is still living at home on the 1820 census of Gwinnett.
She is listed as b 1794-1800) 3 of the males are Lazura b 1797, George W b 1798 and William B. b1799.

On the 1820 census in order is Henry Mathews, Thomas Jones, Nancy Jones (maybe a widow of one of the sons) Lasura Jones, Mary FRY (Curtis CALDWELL and Gilbert Bowman witt. a sell of land from Gilbert FRY of Ga to John JACKSON of Spartanburg 24 Jan 1822, land was in Spartanburg SC) I wonder if she is a JONES, Gilbert Boman, Curtis Caldwell, John Caldwell. All of these (except for Mary FRY) we know are connected to Curtis Sr ("OMC").

court records of Gwinnett page 60 Sept 1834:

George W JONES obtained letters of guardianship for Martha, Thomas, Elender, Uriah and Charity MATHEWS, and gave as securities: Thompson C STRICKLAND, Archibald MATHEWS and Robert STELL.

Also on the 1830 census Henry and Charity had 6 kids 3 boys and 3 girls. However on the 1840 census Charity had a male born 1800-1810 and some extra kids encluding a male born after Henry died. I think this is brother John C living with her and his kids. I found him with wife and family on the 1830 census but could never find him on the 1840's. He is living with brother William B on the 1850 census and his kids (at least I think it's his kids) are living with Curtis and Sarah Caldwell.

Boy this is a good piece of the puzzle you found. One problem, if Charity is Thomas and Janes dau and she was born 1785 Then I bet we are missing a lot of kids. I have a female born 1794-1800 then Lazura about 1797. Between Charity 1785 and Lazura 1797 there are probly more than just 1 female.

The family you found on worldconnect said that Henry and Charity's daughter Martha was born 1817 in Laurens Co SC. I haven't research this county have you got anything?

OK here is what I know. 266 9 Is Gilbert Bowman Jr married to Sarah CALDWELL. Curtis jr had 3 married children by the 1820 census, Sarah md to Gilbert Bowman and her twin sister Elizabeth md to Lindsey Elsberry (269 19) and John (266 32). (266 30) Gilbert Sr. Sarah's father-in-law. The James Caldwell (267 29) could be related some how, I research him, even traced him back to SC but still can't tie him in.

Thomas Jones (266 26 ) the one married to a Jane Caldwell and the father of William, George, John (who all 3 married Curtis's daughters). Also father of Lazarus (266 28). I think the Nancy Jones (27) is a widow of Thomas son (one I don't have a name for). I think Henry Mathews father is Ezekeil but could be Thomas. LEE Curtis jr granddaughter Sarah (daughter of John) married William Lee (a gwinnett family). I don't know if there were any connection before this. The name Minor is from the Lankford part of the family. Meran CALDWELL LANKFORD and husband Nathan named one of their sons Minor. Also 2 of Curtis C Lankford sons married MINOR girls Clara and Georgia.

Now what I found. On the 1850 census is HH# 558 is Charity Mathis 63 SC widow and Uriah H M 23 Ga school teacher. HH#559 is Henry 26 Ga and wife Eliza 23 Ga Mathis. HH#560 Amos KELLY 61 SC and wife Elizbeth 56 SC. HH#561 Ezekial Mathis 23 Ga and Jane 22 Ga. I found Ezekial and Henry (Jr) on the 1860, but only Ezekial on the 1870. Charity is on the 1880 living alone 95 SC fa SC mo NC. Charity is list on page 86 of the 1840 census but I haven't look at it.

Gwinnett Death Records have the following:
Charity Matthews 22 Mar 1785 18 Dec 1880 wo/Thomas T (bur MHW).
Henry Matthews 1794 23 Nov 1831 (George W Jones guardian) (I assume Charity still had minor kids at home.)
Ezekiel Matthews 1751 15 Aug 1837 ho/Rebecca Jones. (how interesting)
Ezekiel Matthews 23 Nov 1826 19 1883 ho/Jane Ford. (bur Lib)
Jane Ford Matthews 2 Jan 1828 16 Apr 1881 wo/ Ezekiel (bur Lib)
John Thomas Matthews 13 Nov 1856 21 Dec 1860 bur with Jane and Ezekeil (Lib)

I didn't have time to study the death records. I will have to take some time and see what else I can find in them.

Mt. Pleasant.

The records of this church date back to January, 1885. All previous records can not be found, but the church was organized some years before that time, the date of organization being 1860, according to the most accurate information that can be obtained.
In 1886 the church had only six members, and decided to disband and unite with Suwanee Town Baptist church.
After a period of seven months, the church was re-organized April 1, 1887, and Rev. W. W. Owens was chosen pastor. Only twelve members, four males and eight females, joined the church at the reorganization, but soon new life was put into the movement and twenty-five were added to the church in a short period of time. The present church was built in 1911 and is worth $850.
A Sunday school with an enrollment of sixty is run here. Officers: E. J. Hughes, superintendent, Mary Crow, secretary; Paul Crow, chorister, and J. H. Wofford, M. L. Teague, Paul Crow, Ida "Teague, T. J. Jones, teachers.
The pastors, length of service and additions follow: Rev. W. M. Owens, 7 years, forty additions; Rev. B. B. Seargent, 1 year, eight additions; Rev. W. B. Haslett, 1 year, 2 additions; Rev. W. W. Owens, 1 year; Rev. J. C. Johnson, 2 years, 13 additions; Rev. E. L. Langley, 1 year; Rev. J. B. Smith, 1 year, 2 additions; Rev. J. J. Adams, 4 years, 30 additions; Rev. J. W.
