Nathan Lankford, served as a private soldier in the American Revolution. He was in the memorable Battle of King’s Mountain Oct 7, 1780 at which time he was only sixteen years of age. He was a brick mason by trade and helped to build the first White House in Washington DC. The corner stone was laid by George Washington, Oct 13, 1792 and Nathan Lankford was present.

Nathan Lankford married Meron Caldwell about 1790 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, (note: I think it was Spartanburg due to data I have found placing Nathan in Spartanburg at that time). His widow, Meron Caldwell married a Mr. Guyton (she didn't remarry). After his death Meron Caldwell moved her children to Gwinnett County, Georgia, to the farm where Johnny Lankford now lives and which is known as the old “Lankford Homestead”.
