Shakespeare's tragic tale of magic and mystery, which is set in Scotland and England and tells the tale of the murderous acts that Macbeth commits to become king, is one of his most famous works. Littered with murders, witches and madness, it is a popular play for acting troupes to perform. The story is Macbeth's and both his and his wife's desire for him to become King. Lady Macbeth urges him to kill the King, yet he desists at first, saying, "First, as I am his kinsman and his subject, Strong both against the deed; then, as his host, Who should against his murderer shut the door, Not bear the knife myself." Yet he eventually gives in to his own dark desires, and there lies the story. |
